Ted Nugent vs Jimmi Hendrix

Nugent is a fine guitarist, but Hendrix set the standard for how to play an electric guitar. If the question is "Who do you prefer" then Nugent is an acceptable answer. But the question was phrased "Best player of the two." Not even a competition. Nugent isn't fit to change Jimi's strings. And yeah, torgospizza; I agree Jeff Beck is one seriously bad mutha...

Right on! Jimi didn't "play" the guitar, he flat out abused it. I have never seen anyone destroy a guitar like Jimi. His natural talent was beyond my comprehension.

I also like Beck and Page before Page got stung out on H. But my second choice of all time will stun many of you....

Frank Zappa!!! If he had played more popular music that got normal airplay he would be talked about as one of the greatest ever. The man was brilliant. And it is 25 years ago tomorrow that he stood up to congress when they wanted to censor what we listen too. His speech floored many who looked at him as just some idiot.

I wouldn't even use Nugent's name in the same breath as Jimi's.

That's putting it lightly. Listen to what Jimi did and understand that what you hear on the record was done on 4 track. I think the only person that would compare would be Eric Clapton...it certainly wouldn't be Nugent. I wouldn't put Nugent in my top 20.

I do pick Jimi but i won't sell Nugent short. Although of all the recording artist i have met through working in radio he was the biggest jack wagon of them all. I met him when i worked at a station in Lansing Mi well Holt Mi but who has heard of Holt. Well he has a small station of his own in Jackson or he did a decade ago. I went over to his little range with our station manager to record some sound and get some promo stuff from him. It was all about him him him. I don't know how he can stand to be around himself. But like i said he is still incredible himself.

The only person that i would put in Hendrix' league in terms of impact and significance is Eddie Van Halen. I'm not really a Van Halen fan personally, but the guy came along and, like Hendrix, completely revolutionized the instrument.
