I thought Brian May put this rumor to rest months ago when he said Cohen wouldn't be Freddie as long as the producers wanted to use the name Queen. He was pretty adamant about that.

I kinda thought Jude Law would be good in the role, but I'm not a casting expert.

there is no way anyone could do Freddy's voice. they will have to use original recordings with the actor lip syncing. Cohen hs the right look but his skin tone is too dark. I am sure makeup could take care of that and movie magic could hide the height issue. About time Queen is getting movie treatment. they are one of the most innovative and unique acts in history.

            He really did resemble Elvis

Think he played in Hairspray too.

One of the most talented and charismatic performers of our generation is going to be played by one of the least. That kinda sucks.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have been a Queen Fan since 1975. I never researched Freddie's ethnic background. I assumed he was British but it never occurred to me to speculate if he was white/brown/coloured. I do remember noting that he had back hair when I saw him in 1977, but I've met many ethnic Welsh, and some Irish, who are as hirsute and dark as Freddie was.

As a teacher of World Religions I found it cool to discover that Freddie was a Zoroastrian. The Parsi were originally from the Middle East and have been a tight knit community, both spiritually and ethnical. At one time Zoroastrianism and Mithraism vied with Christianity for ascendancy in the World.

The Prophet Zoroaster as portrayed by the Parsi community.

I find it interesting that Zoroaster has light skin, like Freddie.

Nobody can claim that the Europeans have hi-jacked the image of Zoroaster and changed his skin to white as has been claimed about another religious personality from the Middle East.

The latest is Queen (both Brian and Roger) are behind Cohen playing Freddie.
Seems like John realy did retire, never seem to hear any thing from him.

This could either be brilliant or horrible. Jaimie Foxx was best known for low-brow humor before playing Ray Charles, so there's a precedent for this working.

Like others said, there is somewhat of a resemblance.

Sorry. This is just like the Beatles and Lennon. There is sufficient documentary footage to satisfy my interest in him as a person. Anything attempted in a film would be a disservice at best and would never be something him or his band mates would have approved. He was a very private person and speculating on what that life was like based on his bi-sexual lifestyle is not fair to him. He was one h*ll of an artist. He had an amazing insight into the human heart that in some ways may have been indicative of his own issues, but were also universal when he expressed them in songs. No one has been like him (before or since). I think the best way to respect Mercury, is to honor his memory by continuing to listen to his music. He would be proud of that.

That was Peter Dobson and Kurt Russell supplied the voice for his speaking part.

I think Freddy would be laughing his head off, approvingly.
As long as the voice is Freddy's, and let's face it, he had an unrivaled voice. Don't mess with perfection.

But they could, of course, use Will Smith and tons of make-up.
                            Instant Academy Award material.
Cause if you need an "ugly" woman, pick a beautiful diva actress and make her gain 50 pounds and stick a crooked nose on her. I mean, why would you pick, like, someone who actually looks like the part to begin with?

I think Cohen will do well.
He is, after all, The Great Pretender.....

I think that Sasha Cohen could be brilliant in this role. The man has acting talent...... and I'm a fan of his.

I hope that they go with him as Freddie
