    Rhoda's Father Died

He was never a leading man, but you most likely will instantly recognize Harold Gould from the 'Rhoda', 'The Sting' or any of his many, many other TV and film appearances.

I've always been fascinated with the people who make careers out of filling out the story lines behind our favorite stars. Whether playing a the murderer in an episode of 'Columbo' or Richie's favorite, wise high school teacher, these were the actors whose names I didn't know as a kid, but instantly recognized from any number of other shows.

In all honesty, I'm not a huge Gould fan, but I did just want to salute the actors who helped make my TV world better when I was a kid. And Gould was definitely one of those actors-

I remember him from a few episodes of Hogan's Heroes

He was usually a German General.

He also had a long standing role as Miles, Rose's boyfriend from Golden Girls. He was a great character actor. RIP, Harold.

Didn't he play the Original Mr. C when Happy Days was just a segment in the anthology series, Love American Style?

Last thing I saw him in was an episode of Felicity many years ago. He was a moody college professor.

Yes, that was him. He was in a televised production of "The Skin of Our Teeth" as Mr. Antrobus (sp?) and was excellent. He also played Ritchie Brockleman's father on the Rockford Files (and I assume the short lived spin-off, too) I thought he would be older than 86, too. RIP
            It's all good!

I agree with you. While watching Hawaii Five-O on DVD last week I saw an actor that looked familiar. A quick search on the net and he was in tons of popular 70's and even some 80's shows. There are many actors that made a good living as guest stars back then. My wife and I discussed this. It seems like that isn't the case much anymore. Faces come and go much more often now then back in the 70's. Reality TV shows may play a big part in it. The exception is the Law and Order franchise. We have seen the same actors play many different parts on LAO, SVU, and Criminal Intent. Plus if you pay attention their casting agents really like redheads.
