Will we get too old for toys ever again?

You're never too old. Look at Bob Burns and the late Forry Ackerman.
Only when you start taking other people's views on it into consideration, then you're in trouble.
If someone says "oooh, you collect...toys", in a disapproving tone, and you let it get to you, then insecurity will make you stop collecting.

My wife never had toys as a kid. Now she collects teddy bears, at the age of 55.
I wholeheartedly approve.

This said. Once my wife retires, we would like to roam the globe, and dragging a truckload of toys behind me won't work. So I might end up selling most of them eventually, even though I'd still love toys in general.....

This hobby is distracting to me.
I worked for the Movie Theaters , Kenner , and SFX on Indie Film.
I'm burned out. Really.
Plus I've done this for 40 years , I think maybe I'll try the guitar for the next 40.
Most of my old time guys buddies used to do a lot of Art too. Early 1980s didnt have a Hot Topic. We had to make our own props posters etc. It was great. Now most fans I know are just consumers.

I really came on board originally to learn about head shrinking. Even my teachers at "Savini High" couldnt explain it and Kenner was as tight as Fort Knox and I never did learn about how to do that on here .

I dont want to grow up neccesarily but I do want to grow.

I'm not able to be a full-time buyer but I'll love this stuff 'til the day I die.

Too old? Nah. The money might run out but I will always have toys with me. It's like Baseball cards or Star Trek or Comic Books or your favorite re-runs. You never grow out of liking those things.

I think everyone who collects (including myself) suffers a bit from depression to different degrees.

I left it back when I was 12 for music. Got back into it in '95 when the Star Wars line was brought back to life. Left it '99 when I got married and back into music and recording.
Then sporadically collected small things along the way and jumped fully into Megos and customs in '05.

man Jason Thats a good thread.I guess for me when I was in my 20's I would buy anything I could get my hands.now im 39 and more selective,the way I see it collecting toys for me will never end . I collect because of many of us here at the forum its nostalgic that feeling of being a kid again and also I hope me thinks I am doing my part on perserving some past pop-culture your never too old for toys Im just very picky now.anyways when we get together next weekend that will be a great topic to discuss in person

I'm 48 and still collect.

Having said that...my likes have changed over the years.

First it was comic books...I was really into comic books...had thousands at one point...and I also bought many high priced ones as well.

Then I lost interest, sold most of that, and switched to Megos.

Now almost all my Megos are gone except Superman/Supergirl Megos...I'm now strictly a Superman only collector, whether it's Mego, Ideal, Remco, Kenner, lunchboxes, etc, as long as it's Superman-related.

You never know in the future...I could end up collecting Catheters and Depends...

I remember when I turned about 21 or so i got back into toys. Collecting new items, going back for older things I used to have or dreamed of having. It was such a big relief to know it was OK to be getting toys. Compared to the dread I felt when I was 12 and began to realize that I had become to old to get new toys and action figures.

Now as I reach my late 30's I can't help but wonder if this will happen again. Will I still be collecting when I'm 50? 60? or older? Will I outgrow my toys again?

Will you? What do you all think?

My mom is 76 and has a collection of dolls in her curio.

There are a lot of 60s era GI Joe Collectors who are quite a bit older than most of us and they're still at it. I've gone long periods of time without picking up anything new, but I've always liked toys (even when I was a teenager), so I don't see myself ever stopping 100%. I could see myself scaling back some, though.

Great topic.......... this is a subject that i recently thought about as well. My birthday is tomorrow and i'll be 45. This hobby gives me such joy that i hope i never get too old to collect toys and watch cartoons . I'm having so much fun that i get bummed thinking about all those years that i could have been collecting and didn't. Just last weekend i finally bought the first Super Friends season on DVD..... watched 3 or 4 episodes so far and they're awesome! One gift i'm pretty sure i'm gettting tomorow is the first season of MOTU, the origianl series, and i can't wait to start watching them. I completely missed out on this one.... makes sense though, i was in high school at the time it came out and wasn't interested in cartoons and action figures.

I though about this the other day too. You know the saying "He who dies with the most toys win".............. well if i'm not mistaken, that is usually in reference to bigger items like motorcycles, boats, cars, etc. All i can say is that those guys ain't got nothing on us .
