Do you put more stock in older autographs ?

Was talking about this with a buddy and thought i'd ask what's yous think.

Ok, beside the fact you actually met the autographer, my question is do you think it's BETTER to have autograph of a celeb from back in the day rather than one you just had signed at a show and payed $50.00 for ?

Still a little unclear ?

Let's try this ......

Would you rather have an autographed 8x10 of Adam West dated 1967 ... or would you rather have one dated 2010 ? ... or does it not matter ?

You can never beat standing watching the person sign the photo, it is the only way you will ever be 100% sure it is not a fake.

I would prefer to actually have see the person sign the picture in front of me so that I can have a picture made at the same time. This way I know for a fact that it is legit.

I would also prefer a vintage photo of Batman over a new photo of him.

And while we are on the topic of preferring. I like Pepsi over Coke, GM over Ford, BK over McD's, actually steak over BK and McD's and the list of what else I would prefer goes on and on...

I'm not that into autographs, but to the extent that I am, I prefer older - no question. It feels almost bittersweet to get an autograph from someone too far removed from his prime, particularly an athlete.

Also, the idea of someone selling his own autograph kind of ruins the whole experience for me.

That's kind of how I feel.

Would I want an autograph of Shatner today at 100 years old and 400 pounds ... or one he signed when he was Captain Kirk

As long as I can see them signing it, it really doesn't matter to me. Though I will admit that I would have liked to have seen Adam West in Batman garb sign my pic back in the day!

i don't pay for an auto. unless i see the person signing it or it's authenticated by a card company like ud or topps

If it were just deciding between two autographs and never having met the person; I would want the older autograph. Many people (especially famous) have changed their signatures over time. Usually at the beginning of a career, the autograph just looks like a natural way of signing your name but after a while becomes a big looping incomprehensible mess.

I am a victim to this myself. It has changed because I sign lot's of paperwork everyday and I had to come up with a way to sign fast. The only two letter that are even legible in my signature is the first letter in my first and last name. I often get ridiculed for it but I'm not doing it to be pompous or anything. I just had to come up with a way to sign 100+ checks in a short amount of time.

I've never asked anyone famous for their autograph. I really don't have any interest in autographs. With that said, if I did have any interest in an autograph, I would prefer to have one signed in person over an old one signed for someone else. But I would prefer an old one signed for someone else over a new one signed for someone else. When I meet famous people, I do try to have my photo taken with them. Ideally, it's the kind of thing where someone else takes the photo while we're talking or something so I don't feel like a tool saying, "Hey man, can I get a photo with you?"

Actually, now that I think about it, I have kept several notes with autographs written to me by famous people and that's cool, but that's kind of different because it's more about the note than the autograph.
