I was just at the bank getting a money order, and suddenly the power goes out. So the employees start locking the doors, as policy dictates. Turns out, the whole block (Lakeshore Ave.) went out, for no apparent reason. The very end of the block by CVS Pharmacy still had power. So now the teller has to call me when the power comes back on, so I can get my money order.

Oh, that happened to me once at the mall. That was absolutely freaky. All the stores, especially the jewelry stores, crashed down their gates or slammed their sliding security doors shut like they were about to get held up.

Hmmmm....
When the power goes out so do the lights and cameras, so they like to lock everything down, so's nobody gets the idea to cut the power line and have a mini-loot. There's a whole rigamarole we go through at work if the power goes out: locking cabinets, stepping away from the counters.... (I work with the money at a casino.)

It's like on the simpson, when as soon as the power goes out, everybody turns into a greedy, vandalous, lunatic, then the lights come back on and everybody goes back to whatever they were doing. Crowd mentality is strange."Steel-like jaws clacked away, each bite slashing flesh from my body - I used my knife and my hands, and when they were gone, my bloody stumps - and yet the turtles came."Comment

I must say that this is the first time I have ever heard that one while buying a money order. Imagine informing the person on the other end that you are sending the money order to.Well you see it is like this I was going to pay you, but the power in the bank went out and I was not able to obtain a money order.

At the hospital when there is a power-outage, all the fire doors shut, and the automatic doors locks (until the backup generator kicks in, in about 5 seconds).
It's all tied into the fire alarm/sprinkler system so perhaps that is why certain aspects of the bank shut down.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I was watching some TV sometime after midnight when the power went out. Coincidently, there were a couple sirens I heard (must of been an emergency or fire somewhere) and I saw (what I know now to be) the glow coming from the lights of a grocery store nearby (which didn't lose power).
I wasn't spooked, until I turned on the battery powered AM radio tuned to our local AM news channel and heard.... nothing but static. I heard the sirens, saw the glow and the AM station is off the air. "We're we attacked, or something???"
Well, the AM station was not off the air, I just had the radio too close to the battery powered fluorescent light. When I figured that out (and the radio was running that Coast To Coast show that was talking to yet another person that said he was taken by aliens) and calmed down, then I called the power company and confirmed it was just your normal power outage.Comment

It really amazes me that with all of the people in the USA using so much power these days that the power grid still actually holds up as well as it does. Remember back when there was that black out?Enjoy what you like, and let others enjoy what they like. (C) Azrak 2009
