DVD Resale value question?

has anybody noticed that standard DVD's are going dowhill in price when you take them in to sell or store credit they are becoming worthless.Blu 'Ray's have held their value since its still a brand new medium

I have not really tried to sell any DVD's, but I have noticed them getting more and more inexpensive to buy all the time. In the near future they will go the way of the VHS tape.

The Blu Ray's will also meet that same fate later on as technology continues to progress and get even better. Most people today are gearing toward the streaming method therefore eliminating the need for any type of a disc period. Less clutter that way to.

I do believe the days of "hard copy" media are getting closer to being numbered. With modern compression codecs digital files are and can be just as sharp as Blu Ray or whatever the next best "disc" is. Plus imagine a world where you could store your entire movie collection on one portable hard drive that you could plug into your TV or PC and... oh wait we're already there

Man I miss album jackets. But I do like the free space too. Damn the conundrum!

They are virtually worthless as trade in's over here in the UK aswell. You can get a bit more on ebay but nothing much. You can see from posts on here that people are buying new ones for $1 or 2 so it should be no surprise that trade in is nothing.

As was said, VHS went this way, now DVD, Blu Ray will be the same this time next year and so on and so on.......................................

I hope this scenario never happens... I'd rather have "hard copies" of DVDs, CDs, etc...

Imagine a world where you could store your entire movie collection on one portable hard drive that you could plug into your TV or PC.

I agree but think about how easy it would be to simply burn a back up copy of the digital file onto a DVD-R. And depending on the compression you could probably but a bunch of movies on one disc to store and save forever and ever.

In our lifetime we already seen VHS come and go AND DVD's come and slowly go.

That's enough of a format change for one lifetime.

dont forget Laserdisc they had a good run from 1981 to 1999

One of the big trends I have noticed is that many Blu-ray releases include a Blu-Ray, a regular DVD copy, and a digital copy for one price. I like the idea because I can watch the movie on my blu-ray LCD or play the regular DVD on my old DVD player and tube tv.

Also, just with vinyls, etc. there will always be a market for DVD's. Just think about all the movies out there (many of them out of print) that aren't even in Blu-ray format. Also, I have noticed that some Blu-Rays don't look any better to me at least than the standard version played on a Blu-Ray. I am so behind the 8 ball, I just bought my first iPod and am just getting ready to dump all of my CD's onto it.

Blue Ray can't increase the quality of a TV show that was video taped.

So selling your video taped TV shows on DVD and rebuying them on Blu Ray is a waste of money.

That is why you have a "backup" plan. External hard drives are becoming less expensive by the day. I have several of them.

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but I really do not think the DVD's will last forever. They will last a very long time, but as with everything not forever. Unless they start burning information to diamonds.

I read somewhere before that the DVD media even have a life expectancy before you lose your data.

Did you go to Silver Platters and Easy Street Records?
They never give you a great deal to begin with but, yes, they have gone down.
Easy to make copies of DVDs and now you can rip Blu-Rays as well.

I seriously doubt that the masses will catch on. Look how long it has been already and how many different format changes there have been. Sadly, People have been lined up at the door each time to be the first sucker err umm I mean person to have something "new".

Look at Bill Gates and Microshaft. Just as another example. They keep on making OS and people keep on updating and updating and updating..... The guy got filthy rich from it.
