    Rustic America

Some of you might remember the photos I posted late last year that were the first two of a book I plan to do. I am tentatively titling it "Rustic America". I don't plan on mass producing and selling it or anything. I am not that good of a photographer that I think anyone except my mom would buy the book. But I plan to get a few coffee table books printed and I have already framed the first two photos for hanging in my office. All of the buildings will be in a black and white/sepia tone look while the vehicles will be in color. Here are those two photos to jog your memory

It was a GORGEOUS weekend here in south central Pennsylvania, so I took advantage of the weather to put 250 miles on the Harley and took my camera to get more shots for the book. Below are 3 that made the cut.

Maybe I should change the name of the book to "Decrepit America". Although, at the rate I am getting photos, it will be 10 years until I have enough to actually produce a book. Anyway, I though I would post 'em for your perusal and enjoyment.

      Great pictures !!!

If I was doing it I would consider doing the buildings in color.

The reason is B&W is a bit confusing as to whether the photo was taken today or 60 years ago.

Color photo's would bring the buildings into the present and let the viewer see them for what they are and not through an "artist" eye.

      Just my thoughts ....

      FANTASTIC, photo's !!!!

It's amazing that some of those buildings just sit abandoned like that for so long. Obviously that top one hasn't been used in decades.

If you do decide to print them up, put me down for one.

Those are some great pictures! My wife, Maggy, is from rural North East PA (near Wilkesbury) and she grew up on a farm that has been in the family for many generations. We usually visit there every year for about 10 days. When I go for a ride out there I see much of the same stuff you saw. Very cool and think of all the stories those buildings could tell.

Great pics! There are plenty of photo opportunities for you in Kentucky. Yep, some stereotypes are true. Lots of cars up on cinder blocks with trees growing through them, etc. Tons of abandoned houses that were once quite beautiful. If you are ever up for a road trip, you'd do well for your book here!

I actually got the shot of the first truck in Tennessee. I was down there for a photo shoot for work and I did some photography on my own when we were driving back to Memphis to fly home. If I would have had more time, I could possibly have finished the book then and there. We were in the middle of nowhere, TN and LOTS of cool shots.

                      Love the B&W Sepia coloring.
My wife has a wall with the kids done up this way as well.
Something about the sepia just gives it a real old feel to me of quieter more serene times.
                      Good luck!!!

Beautiful pics!!! I really like this idea, a lot. I wish you all of the sucess in thw rodl with this project. Try Indiana, as well.

Also, I remember when I lived in Iowa about a decade ago that if you went to the small rural towns it was almost stepping bakc in time. Talk about rustic. I was in eastern Iowa, but all of Iowa is likely similar.

The air smelled differently, yards were estate sized by today's standards, windows were open and doors had gaps in them, not like this central air - air tight society now; things were much dustier and had individual character.
Please post more work or give me a link to your album, I would buy that book the minute it came out.

You CAN publish a book through cafepress. com. And you get a tiny bit of money if someone buys a copy.
