Music Comment: U2 "The Joshua Tree"

My girlfriend picked up the CD last night when we went to see a friend play an in store performance.
We are listening to it right now and have to say what a great album. Haven't listened to in decades.
I recall when this came out my last year of high school and start of college.
All the songs are beautiful and still stand to this day. Perfect sound track to be driving through the southwest on a coast to coast road trip.
    Anyone else dig this album?

Also watched "It Might Get Loud". Jack White makes himself look self indulgent but I love the class Edge and Jimmy Page portray for being world renowned veteran guitarists. Highly recommended.

JT is the best U2 album ever. It's definitely one of my favorite "non 70's" albums, of which there's probably about a half dozen or so.

To say that I dig the Joshua Tree would be an understatement. As cheesy as it sounds, it quite literally changed my life. Yeah, I like that album.
Nostalgia just ain’t what it used to be.

A concert I'll never forget. It was the soundtrack for my senior year in high school.

Ugh....I've never been a fan of U2....except for thier song on the Batman Forever soundtrack. I don't know why..... I just never clicked with them.

As for the documentary "It Might Get Loud"....I thoroughly enjoyed all of that.....and it really helped me to open up to Jack White more....and even Edge...who I pretty much can't stand listening to his style of playing.

              The Joshua tree...........
Inspired a major part of my life.
One of my all time favorite albums.
We seem to share some musical tastes Ed.
Would be cool to have a few brews sometime ,if ever I cross the border.

War and Unforgettable Fire are better...Joshua Tree just pushed them over the top from being a great rock band to a global monster. It got a lot more airplay than I really cared for as a fan of the group. It is a great album...but was way overplayed back in 87/88. Went to see them on the first night of the north american tour at Nassau Coliseum. Amazing show and I probably lost some of my hearing unfortunately. Funny thing is...the B-sides and extra tracks on the 12 inch singles could have made the album...that, most often, can't be said of the extra tracks from a recording session. "In God's Country", "Trip Through Your Wire", and "Running To Stand Still" are my favorites on the album.

Now go out and get "War" and "Unforgettable Fire"
"When not too many people can see we're all the same
And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
                The beauty that surrounds them
                Isn't it a pity".

                - "Isn't It A Pity"
                By George Harrison

Total respect for what you are saying, but it also makes me laugh because this was the exact same lament of many of my friends who were resentful and irritated becasue they knew U2 before it was cool. I got into them because of the exposure of Joshua Tree, I'm never cutting edge.

One of the first albums I bought with my own money was U2's Under A Blood Red Sky mini-LP (on cassette). I wore that thing out.

I saw them on the Joshua Tree tour at JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in 1987; my first and last arena concert. Loved the music, but after spending much of my teen years listening to their music in my room by myself, being in a crowd of tens of thousands of people made the experience of listening to them a lot less special.

Joshua Tree is definitely their best album, but I really like the pre-JT stuff, too. Anything after that does almost nothing for me, though.

U2 has often been compared to the Beatles in regards to their expiramentation and song writing. JT was a landmark album for them and is definately one of the greatest albums of all time
