    Another expensive toy hobby...

    Red line Hotwheels cars! I think if the economy was better this one may have gone much higher. And no, I didn't buy this or even bid on it. Way to rich for me. I do have a decent Red line collection but nothing like this;

            Holy crapadoo, thats crazy! I agree with Hector, I'd rather get a real muscle car to work on for that money.

            It is a neat car though.

              me too but is it really that different from what a serious mego head would pay for an authentic prototype. PLus the buyer doesn't have to have a garage to keep it in. I have a couple of rare Joes I paid more for them than my Torino

                That is actually nothing! I have seen some Hot Wheels go for way more than that. Hot Wheelers take their hobby serious.

                Too much space. Need more toys!

                  Yes...but this is a Mego site...not a Hot Wheels site...therefore...my reaction was predictable and expected...

                    You hit it right on the head! And yes, the rare colors and prototypes can go for big bucks. I don't remember what it sold for, but a few years back there was one on eBay that was only given out to regional sales managers at a yearly conference, or something close to that. I think it sold for well over 3 grand. I have not seen one like it before or since.

                    I will admit that those cars and prices are way above anything I would be willing to pay. My pockets aren't that deep...unless it's an old Kawasaki.

                    I also wondered what is considered the Holy Grail of Mego collecting? Is there one item? I have an English friend who owns an NOS 1974 Kawasaki H2 that is still in the crate unassembled. Other then a 72 model of the same bike that is pretty much the Holy Grail of those bikes.

                      Yes, the Holy Grail of Mego collecting is the ultra rare Flash Mego that was only test marketed at a few stores in the midwest. Apparently, only a few exist and I have yet to see one.
