    Sharks

Well this morning has been very interesting. My girlfriend and I took Adler to Hampton Beach for a day of fun in the sun. However when we got there it was a whole different story....There were News crews and reporters and people shouting and pointing and taking pictures of the coast line. We were like what the heck...and then we saw what all the hooplah was about. 4 Sharks of an at the time undetermined species were swimming up and down the coast line of Hampton Beach as close as 15 yards offshore! Pretty freaky , there have Never been documented shark sightings at this beach in history. One of them was pretty big too! The life gaurds were only letting people go up to their ankles in the water and were strongly cautioning people not to do so....Pretty neat , but kind of put a damper on the day.

Oh, that's so cool. I wish I would have seen something like that. If pics show up on your local news, please post them.

I like sharks. They are amazing creatures. I never could really understand why people like to go and try to press their luck and get as close to them as they can. If someone posted a sign or told me that there was sharks in the water in a particular area I would not be near it. Common sense.

I have heard stories of people getting attacked by sharks. Sharks live in the ocean. You are entering their domain. people?!?!?! What really gets me is the people act soooo surprised by it.

Even though I like to watch sharks I prefer to view them at a great distance as I do not like them THAT much.

I think sharks are amazing to watch from inside a glass tube, or on TV. I would not want to be near them. But they do taste good too!

So in other words this means that you will not be going down in to visit them under water in a shark cage any time soon? j/k

            I don't blame you. I wouldn't either.

Yeah we're south of you and we had all our beaches closed last week for the same reason. They've had 25+ sightings real close to shore. Great whites too. Kinda freaky here. We know they have em, especially out towards the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket but never this close to us in this much volume and regularity.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the mass oil spill?

I've taken charter boat rides to the Farallon Islands here in Northern California...and yes...not only seen great whites in person...but humpbacks, seals, dolphins, killer whales...and even the gigantic blue whale...amazing sights indeed...

I was scared beyond believe by Jaws as a kid, and still only like to swim in water I can see clearly in. I do however love snorkeling, especially in Hawaii. Our favorite location is in Maui, where the Black Rock reef at the Sheraton has some of the best onshore snorkeling. More than once we've seen Whitetip Reef Sharks directly below us, usually about 30 feet down. They only grow to about 6 feet long, but man, they look like Great Whites to me from that distance. Amazing creatures to watch swim. Even though I know these aren't aggressive to humans, it certainly raises your heartbeat. Here's a good video of one at the very location I'm talking about, but taken by a scuba diver.

There's also been some Great White sightings between Maine & Mass. recently.
