Something else would have come along. Very little change, IMO to the grand scheme of things. While lots of fantasy sci-fi epics were helped because of Star Wars, lots of them got crushed too, because they were compared to Star Wars. Likely, something obscure would have been made and hit part of those same areas that Star Wars touched and turned into a big hit. Probably not as big as Star Wars, but would have had some similar impacts. Leading us to a place not much different than today.

The only area I see that Star Wars made a huge impact, was in the toy aisles... In the late 90's. Because prior to that, toys were starting to hurt in the States and somehow they got rolling big and it's helped keep the toy aisles alive.

Good one about Harrison Ford being a retired carpenter.

I see a HUGE influence in comics of the time. Sure many Golden Age SCi Fi came back but usually got the Star Wars treatment. The designs of all the ships, buildings, death rays, changed . Shame it the change became very uniform.

And Movies! Maybe after teh dark 1970s we needed a finacial reason to make more family movies.
