I would agree. A lot of consumers think these days that just because you are a worker bee you have to take their crap when they dish it out. Not true! I to applaud those who stand up for what is right.

I may not agree with how he went about everything in making his point though. Maybe a little off the charts there, but then again. He was stressing about his Mom so....Watcha gonna do.

I addition to a lawyer hopefully he gets…

an agent and a book deal. He can make the rounds on a talk show circuit and with luck never have to work in the service industry again!

That's pretty sweet. I wonder if he had thought that up in his head before, just as a joke.

His lawyer also stated that he was scheduled to work on 9-11, on board the return flight of the infamous Flight 800 airplane and lost friends/co-workers. I'm sure that has to unnerve you a bit every time you get into a potential altercation with a passenger, even a decade later.

If you've ever worked in a position where you have to deal with the public face to face, whether it's as a waiter/waitress, nurse, customer service rep, checkout lane/register, sales, retail, etc... you know how one rude person can ruin an otherwise uneventful (read: good) day.

Now, having been on that end where you get crap from your boss AND the public on an everyday basis, when you go out and find yourself on the customer end, do you:

A.) Act like an ***, being that it's your turn to take it out on someone for once

                  or do you:

B.) Feel a kinship and treat the person serving you with respect, hoping to obtain some in return?

I have work jobs where I deal with the public and jobs where I don't have do. I prefer the jobs where I don't have to, since I generally feel happier at the end of the day, less stressed and less fatigued. But being in a job now where customer service is part of the deal, I do try to be nice to everyone no matter how rude and mean they are.

When I go out, and I order in a restaurant I try to be mindful and not bothersome to the waitress (you know, being rude, complaining about EVERY little thing, etc.). That's not to say I won't speak up if something is wrong, but I do try to remember that they are a human and that they've probably had to put up with a lot of jerks today.

There are humane ways of interacting with folks... and then there are the animals.

That flight attendant had to deal with one of the animals that day, and I can't blame him for standing up for himself, and having a little fun at the same time.

                    I'm torn on this one.

I never take anything the flight attendants offer, just politely wave them away. They're some of the most surly people I've ever observed, and I'd just as soon not have contact with them. This is obviously a worst case scenario.

On the other hand, I hate the way people act when flying, and can understand why this dude would blow his top. I avoid flying, but when I have to I try to be the last one off to avoid the mad rush for the overhead bins/exit doors.

I do admire his style. I'd love to have quit jobs I hated with such a flourish. Some people leave their work with "a bang" (esp. if fired). At least this big finish didn't hurt anyone.

I've worked with the public a long time and the vast majority are good people who cause no problems. Only a small handful are rude and I try to take comfort in the fact that their family or whoever is with them usually takes off when they start acting like a jerk because you know they've seen it before. I always tell my employees and managers not to take it personally (though that's impossible, to some extent) and to realize it has little to do with the actual situation. And, yes, when I'm in public, I always treat any customer service person with respect.

A whole new world has opened up for this guy. Talk shows, maybe a show for himself and a book. I don't think they will put him in jail either.

On that note. I have used this analogy. When you put one animal in closer proximity to another say in a cage or in this case a "tube". Usually there is not any issues. Add another animal to the scenario and three becomes a crowd. Keep adding animals to the same cage and eventually there will be a fight sooner or later.

Wow! So the plot thickens even more. I did not hear that until now. Thanks for passing that on. I am sure more and more info will be divulged as this is brought out to the public eye.

This is one of those cases that IF the guy wins the case then it will open up a loop hole in the law to where people can just work/run amok and act nuts without any to little recourse.

Don't get me wrong. I feel for the guy for what he is going through and do not want to see anyone loose their job especially in this current economy. However, There has to be some kind of a happy medium and a punishment for the crime so to speak. We will just have to let the powers that be make that decision and hopefully it will be fair for him. I do believe that this shall be interesting.

Colbert had a good point: how is it that nobody on the plane filmed this?
