The first DVD I bought was "Ghostbusters"... before I had a player. As an incentive to save up for a player. Then I bought "The Exorcist" special edition before I had a player too.
Back in the day, when the only video device within striking distance for me was the RCA Selectavision videodisc player, that's when I bought a "Star Trek 2" disc before I got the player. I think I also got "Carrie" before I got the player.
I was late in getting a DVD player, so my first DVD purchase was Blade. I still love that movie. Now I'm on the cusp of getting a BluRay now that I have an HD television. That got delivered this afternoon. I'll have to replace my Lord of the Rings discs with Bluray versions.

I almost had a psychic girlfriend but she dumped me before we met.
If anyone here believes in psychokinesis, please raise my hand.
First DVD? No clue. However, I do remember my first BETA Tape: Heckle and Jeckle - Madcap Magpies!
"Yeah Dad, let's get a BETA! Sure, there's only ONE place in town that rents BETA tapes and it's so far away that mom will only drive me there one time EVER to rent a movie (Raiders of the Lost Ark), but the quality is just so much better that it's totally worth it! The other kids in the neighborhood who are watching a different VHS tape every day because they can walk to the video store that rents VHS just don't know what they're missing! Hey, let's watch Heckle and Jeckle again (since it's the only video we have!)"

Blade was my sisters first DVD and the first time I ever watched one
I was still into VHS at the time, but the first few big years of DVDs brought some really rare stuff out that just wasn't on tape. My first DVD was Redneck Zombies. I hadn't seen it in years; it was an early Troma film shot on the Eastern Shore of MD so I had to have it.
