Apparently I live on Long Island now....

A restaurant close to my house went from being a Fish and Chips to a "Bagel King" overnight recently. Why? Because they are filming the new ABC TV series "Long Island Confidential" here, in Canada....

So, greetings from fake Lake Ronkonkoma I guess.

And what's wrong with living on Long Island??!!??

As a lifelong Islander I can honestly say it's not a bad thing

Still somewhat clean air and living...I can say it's getting harder and harder to live on the Island...more so for the newer residents than the residents that have been here for a long time. I have a feeling that they couldn't use Bagel Boss for the name of that Bagel shop in the show...Bagel Boss has been one of THE bagel shops on Long Island for the last 20 years.

And because of all their tears,
Their eyes can't hope to see
            The beauty that surrounds them
            Isn't it a pity".

If this show makes it to air and you find yourself watching it, when you see scenes in the bagel king you can say "Hey Brian used to play video games in that place back in '81 when it was the Submarine Machine but his mother didn't like him going in there due to all the drugs"

Oh and the Irish pub I occasionally visit is across the street, look for me!

                  Very cool news.....

Canada is rapidly becoming the new televison capital of the USA.

I think this trend started in the early 90's around when Sliders was filmed.

To pull the studios away from the LA area.... You guys are definitely doing something right

                  Congrats-- BIG time

I know X-files was filmed in Canada, at least until the last couple seasons. Supernatural is filmed there as now. Great part about that is it gives us more opportunities to see JohnnyMego in action, since he seems to pop up on those Canadian produced shows. Both times I've seem him he's died a most awesome gruesome death.

                      Don't tell Ben Affleck…

he doesn't like those so-called "runaway productions".

Incidentally, a lot of movies are filmed here in Alberta too. Brokeback Mountain, Unforgiven, Dances with Wolves, Broken Trail, and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee to name a few.

Most of these productions came to Canada because of the exchange rate on the dollar. Now that the tables have turned and our dollar has climbed above the US buck again, and is still climbing, I think a lot of these productions will turn tail and head back home.
Some areas wont be affected by this...For example Alberta. As Mawni pointed out a lot of films are made here, mostly Westerns (and most famously--the original Superman flicks), and are attracted more by the landscape than the dollar exchange.
Old Montreal stands in for a lot of 18th and 19th century locations, and Vancouver has some pretty impressive studio lots these days, so they may do ok still, but I think other city's and Provinces will experience a decline very soon.

Hey Great Brian! Just stay away from the Long Island beaches in the summer. If the sharks in the water don't get you the medical waste just might.

It would probably take me about the same time to drive to Oshawa as it would to the real Long Island from the city anyway.
