Fav type of Music

I have the musical tastes of a 21 year old.

Like a lot of people, I started out with the classic rock. Loved the guys like Floyd, Zep and the bluesy rock like Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I moved on to a little rockabilly like Reverand Horton Heat.

I've always had a good bit of electronica flavor weaving its way through all the rest. Loved Depeche Mode and The Cure in college. Then I moved on to Prodigy, DJ Irene and some Hard House Music (Rave type stuff).

Never liked country, except the old classics like Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.

Love my Metallica and Tool, but don't listen to much Metal otherwise.

British prog is very hit or miss with me, and I can't really say what makes these albums and bands click. Bands like Gentle Giant, Matching Mole, King Crimson and Yes occasionally do it for me, but in smaller doses.

I kinda like Gabriel Genesis, but I really liked Phil as well before they went all commercial and did crap like "I Can't Dance". His solo stuff before selling his musical soul to Disney was inspired and heartfelt.

Currently I'm more metal than anything.

I must assume that you didn't mention King Crimson only because they fit in all 4 categories and you didn't know where to list them.

...and are you talking about Genesis back with Peter singing or Phil?

I'm mostly just giving you a hard time. Gentle Giant is really hit and miss, so unless you heard one of their better albums, you may have (very rightfully) thought they sucked. Yes put out some less than awesome material too. King Crimson has several absolutely AMAZING albums and a lot that I can't listen to all, so really when you get into the really progy stuff, even some of the best bands release some of the worst albums!

It's all good. I can talk prog/metal all night. I'm considering just getting a bunch of tunes form those aforementioned bands and making comps and playlists to weed out the filler and the outright awful. I've been singing off and on for 20-plus years so vocalists make or break it for me, and you know prog rock and neo-prog singers can very well be an acquired taste. Cool to see someone has somewhat similar music interests.
