Need help with a wireless network

Ok, I don't know what I did, but evidently I broke the internet!

    I have a Netgear router WGR614v10.

I had it configured as WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

    Everything worked swimmingly.

However I have a Wii... and to hook it up online, wirelessly I was told I had to reduce my security to WEP only.

    Easy right?

Went into the settings page, changed the security options. Changed the password.

Then it happened... none of our laptops would connect. They saw the network SSID broadcast, but when you told the adapter to connect and put in the new password, "cannot connect."

Went through every troubleshooting thingy I could, and nothing. Tried putting things back the way they were, and nothing. Won't accept new password or old password (when I changed it back.)

    Repaired adapters.
Reset router back to factory settings, and went through the CD install.

Nothing. The network is there. It's getting the internet. I'm running an ethernet cable to the router right now to be online to post this...

All my devices SEE the network, but again... it keeps telling me my password is not accepted.

I reinstalled from scratch AGAIN... and set it up with NO security. No password needed. Devices see the network, and yet with no security and no password needed... the router won't allow connection.

Someone more familiar with this junk... HELP! I'm to the point of frustration tears, here.

It sounds like you've done everything I would've.

I don't know if any of your devices have your home network saved, but I would try opening the connection utility on a PC or laptop, deleting the home network if it's saved, rebooting the machine, then attempting to connect again.

Another thing to check on your router is if it's configured to only accept machines by MAC address. If it is, and the list has been reset, this could account for you being unable to connect. Though I don't see how this would be the case after the router was factory reset. MAC address filtering is usually off by default.

I think Windows caches your Wireless connection passwords. If you do the repair network connection from your PC it should fix it for you.

Also For your WII you may want to do this

1-Give your Wii a static IP address
2-In the router you should see a setting called DMZ. Place your Wiis adress there. They should eliminae any lag on online games

Think B.A. Where did you hide the Megos?

Thing is... I know my password. The Network just didn't want to accept it.

I finally tucked my tail between my legs and called tech support at Netgear... and it confused the crap out of them.

Finally one guy just walked me through a different kind of reset (not the little button on the back) that required a bunch of gobbily gook on a command prompt.

Then, it was back to reconfigure the network for the 5th time. 5th time took it.

Back flying without the strings. Now I can finally go to sleep (I work midnights) and not fear that disapproving look from the hubby.

I thank you guys for your help/concern/or possibly morbid fascination.

I really wanted to avoid tech support, since I know they outsource overseas and my cellphone is crappy enough without trying to understand tech stuff through an accent. The guy that helped me had a mild to no accent, but my ancient cellphone STILL was crappy. (I actually had to ask for things to be repeated, and I felt like a prick.)
