Adam West (Brian) - Anri collection

    I warned you Brian!!!!

I bought a collection of Anri today. I don't want to say what I paid for them because I jinxed myself when I did it with the clock a couple weeks ago:

I generally stick to carved bottle stoppers, here is an example of one I purchased recently

I also purchased this early (around 1925) wood carving of St. Benedict

and for the nativity figures, I prefer the Kuolt figures

As you probably already know, you have figures by the sculpter Ferrandiz and yes, they are quite collectible especially with the ladies because they resemble Hummel figures. They are all hand carved wood and Anri is world reknown for their wood sculptures. I admit I don't know a lot about the value of Ferrandiz figures because I don't collect them but I do know depending on the figure, they can be quite valuable especially if some of the figures are limited edition pieces. I see a few of them are nativity figures (make sure to note the size because they generally come in a 3", 5", and 6" line). The guidebook I have doesn't list any of them but I am guessing you have at least $1,000 worth of figures there (EBAY value). If there is a label (especially a Anri paper label) on the bottom, take a picture of it because you can date it from the label and collectors will pay a premium if the label is intact. The more recent figures have a round metal Anri label embedded in the wood....but yeah you should do well if you list them as Anri and sell them seperately with the exception of maybe the camel and camel driver.

Ignore my estimate...too conservative. If those nativity figures are in the 6 inch line (which I suspect they are), those 8 figures alone should bring around $1,000 on EBAY (retail value on those alone are around $2,500 and I estimated around 40% of retail for Ebay)....so now I'm upping my estimate to around $2,000 for everything maybe more if some of those figures are limited editions and no longer made. I don't know what you paid for the lot but it is a good grab if you are as frugal as usual.

Are you saying a complete 6" Nativity scene is $20K-$30K each book?

I didn't get them for a steal, I do have a good amount invested. they came from same estate company as the GI Joes I got three months ago. They had about 50 figures, but I only grabbed the big pieces, the pieces that are numbered, and the small pieces that I thought was cool (like the little indian girl).

The only reason I went to this sale was because of these and from what I have heard you talk about, I have never seen one before this sale. All I did before the sale was do a quick search to get a general idea, and all the pieces I left were the small 3" figures.

The two camels and drivers were the to most expensive ($***), all the rest were well under $100 each. Alot of the smalls do have the green square paper labels, not the metal circle.

So, if I lose my butt on this Brian:

                IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!

I give you credit, you really have a knack for knowing a bit about almost any kind of collectible with potential value. That's good knowledge to have. I could have seen those same figures sitting on a table at a yardsale marked at 25 cents each, and passed by them with complete blissful ignorance.

                        Brian (Adam West),

The lady from the estate sale called me this evening. She found all the boxes and all the literature for the figures.

The boxes are even better. If it has a paper label with a green pine tree...that dates it to 1956. Take a picture of the labels for the auction and the boxes will just increase it.

The camels retail for over $500 a piece, the camel driver, over $200. On second thought, I'd list the camel driver seperately from the camel.

Anri nativity sets are bar none, the most collectible sets around. They are heirloom quality sets (the type of stuff you hand down to your kids).

The biggest mistakes in my opinion that sellers make are selling entire nativity sets. Most collectors are unwilling to drop $1000's on a complete set. Because of the collectibility and quality, collectors will piece sets over years and years so they will drop say $300-$400 for a camel.

Last year I purchased a nice Kuolt set with about 15 pieces or so for $1,000. An older set came up for auction that I found more desirable so I purchased that one too. I sold each piece seperately from the first set and ended up making over $2,000 by splitting it up which just about paid for both sets. I would wait a little longer before you place the nativity figures up (when people are looking for them). The nativity set pictured above I purchased recently for $1,800 which right at my maximum. There were 4 items from the set that I needed for my collection (most of them discontinued). I'm hoping to sell the remaining ones and recoup my $1,800. There are some discontinued and older figures in the set that should easily top $200 per figure.

I think you did well. Just check some finished auctions for Anri Ferrandiz and it might give you an idea of what they sold for. I know I've seen the Indian Squaw and drummer boy up for auction before but like I said, I don't really pay much attention to them so I'm basing my estimate off of retail which I got from http://www.blackforestgifts.com (just click on Anri 6 inch Ferrandiz) and you will see the camel retailing for over $500 and the camel driver and cows over $200. If you have the boxes and do indeed have older pieces, some collectors may be willing to pay over retail for them.

When I first started collecting Anri items 7 years ago, the items were much more reasonable. Prices are going through the roof right now for just about everything. To me, they are unique pieces of art and the quality is incomparable.

Good Luck with them. PM me if you need more info. and let us know how close to the mark I was.

                            Brian,

Take a look at my auctions and see if you see any errors. "Basket of Joy" & "Animal Pyramid" are the ones I am not sure if the name is correct.

The drummer and the little wood carver, I cannot find a name at all.

Well, now that the auctions are closed, I can say how much I paid for these bad boys. I spent $1400 for 19 figures. Four of them were $150 each (camel and driver). I have sold everything but one camel and driver, donkey, ox, and three smaller pieces, and the total sales so far is around $1370.

So Adam, your estimate of $2000 is pretty close. The camel and driver sold for around $300 and the ox for $100, and I figure about $150 for the rest.

The two big ones were these 2" "Heavenly Concert" and 6" "Animal Pyramid" for $225 and $325. I only paid $35 and $50 for these two:

                              ANRI FERRANDIZ 2" HEAVENLY CONCERT #652353 W/BOX 113/ - (eBay item 260171234855 end time Oct-21-07 16:51:32 PDT)
