    Alternatives to PayPal

There seems like a lot of peeps out there today are not very happy with eBay and their ever changing practices. As most of us know PayPal was bought out by eBay some time ago.

Having typed that I was just wanting to see if there are anyone out there using any alternatives to PayPal that actually works well.

I still use PayPal even know I gave eBay my two fingers notice quite some time ago. I will probably continue to use PayPal for now since it is so widely used and trusted. (At least until a better alternative presents itself) Even though recently I had an issue with PayPal while I was away for a while. Issue resolved. It never hurts to have a back up plan.

Here are some alternatives that I am looking into. Perhaps someone here can shine more light on the subject matter.

Anyone here ever use any of the following services as alternatives?

    Google Checkout

    Alert Pay

    PayPay

All of the above I have recently found out about here at the link below while googling around.

While that is all true. Some peeps do not like messing with "monkey odors". And some folks are hesitant about sending cash in the mail. I am one of them. Well concealed or not. It may not be the seller that you have to worry about sending to it could be the postal employee delivering it.

Personally, I think that there should be a BlackKnight payment method.

I've went back to using good old fashioned cash for my purchases. MO's are a pain in the butt (IMO) for both the buyer and the seller. And in the case a postal worker does get a little too grabby there's ways around that too. If it's a small amount of cash I'm sending I don't really sweat it but if I was going to send a larger amount I would send it in a priority envelope with Delivery Confirmation.

Considering all the paypal and ebay fees the cost isn't really that much different to me.

I feel the same way. When I have sent a larger amount of cash that was usually the way I went as well. Priority mail with delivery confirmation and some times even insurance depending on the amount involved.

I REALLY miss Western Union Bidpay. This was my preferred method of payment for years and years. The user pays the fees, and I just get a big pile of money orders in the mail that I simply deposit each week.

It went the way of the dinosaur right around the time ebay came out with it's own online payment method, and after that failed they bought paypal.

Paypal was fine until they started implementing the business accounts and charged you to get payed. Now ebay and paypal as a singular entity feels like they are double dipping.

I'd just prefer to get sent postal money orders, but that is no longer allowed by ebay either.

Yeah, Bidpay was nice. I get a money order, and the customer conveniently paid for it by credit card without having to go out and buy one.

I've used Google Checkout a few times, and it worked fine.

In Canada, we have a cool system called Certapay (I think it's still called that). If you have an account at one of the major Canadian banks, and do online banking, you can send or accept instant bank transfers to anyone else in Canada that has the same (the sender pays a very nominal fee). Very convenient, and completely safe (and the seller doesn't have to worry about chargebacks). Kind of like how bank transfers are a very common and cheap method of sending payment in Europe. I don't know why the US is so backwards in this respect (too many different banks maybe?)

I haven't been able to bid on anything on Ebay since the stupid Paypal thing became mandatory. But then, maybe that's a good thing. Teach me a little forced self-control.

Yeah, I have not bid on anything on eBay in a long time. I quit them some time ago. I had spent lots of money with them in a very short period of time. Now I hate the thought of giving them one red penny.

At first it was hard seeing all of the great stuff go by. Like you stated though it is all about self control. Now I just channel all of my anger at eBay through the Market Place here. It is almost like I never even skipped a beat. As it pertains to Mego like goodies that is.

I have cheated once or twice though. I had someone with an eBay account buy something for me and I paid them back pronto. Some deals are just too good to pass on.

Google checkout kind of caught my attention. I have yet to sign up or use it yet although I am thinking seriously about learning more. With it being backed by Google at least you know that it is a stable company and not some fly by night service.

My gf loves to shop on Amazon. I have bought a thing or two from Amazon as well. I of course love shopping here the most though at the Mego Marketplace for rather obvious reasons.
