Pods- anybody ever use PODS to move? Pros, cons?

We are looking to move from Nevada to back east NY. Has anybody ever used a POD? I guess we load this ourself and the POD company ships to destination.

Has anybody had any issues with PODS?

    Pros, cons? Any info helps.

I need to ship some items of value, not sure what the safest choice is.

Or who is the most reliable moving co?

How would you ship AMMO, guns, toys, comics and items of value?

Guns and ammo is a tough one.

I'd keep them with me at all times.

I think a better question is why would you move back to New York?
They'd have to offer me a million dollars to move back east again. (and I'd need it to pay the high taxes)

We moved with pods but we had a slight problem with the bay doors.

I used a POD to move stuff from NJ to Ohio, and then locally within Ohio. The drawback is that you have to rent it for a minimum of a month, though I was OK with that. Having it for a month let me load it & unload it at my leisure, which was exactly what I wanted.

Once you've rented the POD, the POD company arranges to haul it for you. So, there's a rental fee, a dropoff fee, a hauling fee, and then I believe a pickup fee to haul the empty away. There are physical limitations to where PODs can be used - steep inclines & tight corners are a problem. You can get a fair amount of stuff into one, but I wound up needing 2, so more $.

Bottom line - convenient, but not cheap. Probably not practical for a routine local move, but worth considering for bigger jobs & longer distances. Plus, factor in the benefit of gradually loading & unloading. I was impressed enough with the experience that I e-mailed the POD company and suggested some new marketing strategies to them.

Lost my job in Vegas, the schools suck here. And I may have a solid job lined up in NY. We also have much family in NY that we can stay with to get back on our feet. Theres more too it, health issues and more.

Who would you guys say is the best, most reliable moving company? We used Beekins when we moved to Vegas, those idiots lost or stole 2 of my boxes, just happens they were classic toys.

Sorry to hear that. Actually i figured there were valid reasons. I was just being a smartaleck.
Hope everything works out for you.
Yeah, they can bury me in NY when I'm dead if they want but I'd hate to have to move back there involuntarily.

I've moved across country maybe 4 times and we always rented and drove a moving van.

Pods are good. My ex-wife uses them and swears by them.
As for state to state moving company, Mayflower is good but too expensive.
                  Bekins was always the worst.
As for guns and ammo, not sure about that unless you box it with heavy blankets and pillows and mark the box and blankets or unwashed clothes.

I used PODS when I moved a couple years ago. Rented it about a month before moving and slowly loaded it (no escentuals).

My best advice, take a water hose to it all over the outside before loading it and make sure it does not leak. I heard stories of them leaking. I checked mine and it was good.
