Idiots like to watch other idiots on television. It makes them seem not so idiotic in their own own eyes...

When ordinary, every day people see ordinary every day people on TV, it gives them some sort of weird hope that maybe someday they could achieve some modicum of "stardom" or whatever.

That's the draw of reality TV in general.
