    AFA U grades.....

Following on from the AFA thread in auction watch, this made me think of a thread doing the rounds on the Star Wars forums regarding the damage AFA U grades are doing to the hobby.
I'm not preaching whether it's right or wrong, but it sure does make an interesting read......

interesting read, I actually collect graded loose star wars, I have 64/100 which are all graded 90/u90. Ive stopped for a while, but would like to finish them, but have noticed they have gone up, what people are asking for 90/u90. Im at a dilema to finish of at u85because of this, with the thought factor, arent afa 90 grades just a freak of nature, and afa 85 are just your everyday figure that everyone would get.?

I know a collector of highend graded Star Wars figures on the RebelScum forums recently(back in May) liberated all his graded figures from their plastic jails much to delight and dismay of others.

      interesting reading

As an aside, there have been cases, especially in the Transformer fandom, where dealers are actually forging graded toys for higher prices.

Part of collecting anything in a slab is the security that's supposed to accompany it which a buyer can rely on (i.e. Non restored, or non repro, or non repackaged.) when that "security" is taken out of the equation by falsifying the grade, or faking the slab itself, what's the point in collecting slabbed?

Thanks for posting that. It was very informative and helped with some perspective on the whole situation.
