Egypt are the African champions which is why they are higher than other african teams.
Greece is higher than the USA because only a few years ago they won the European championship.
I don't think anyone doubts that they should be ranked higher than the other African nations but #9 in the World? They beat Ghana 1-0 and Algeria 4-0, got crushed by England, crushed by the U.S....that makes a lot of since.
As for Greece, they won it in 2004 which was 6 years ago. Spain won in 2008 and then got slapped down by the U.S. in the Confederations Cup.

Silly reasons (not you, but FIFA's).
Awarding Greece because they won a few years ago?
Well, now they suck.
Egypt because they are the African champions?
Well...that's interesting because USA won the CONCACAF qualifiers...that makes them champions of the vast continent of North America. USA also spanked Egypt in their own country just last year...3-0.

Exactly.
USA is vastly superior to Egypt in both resume and head-to-head competition.
Basing part of the rankings on past history...is also very lame...really lame.

Well it is FIFA after all. They won't even install a simple sensor to determine whether or not a ball crosses the goal line, won't look at any instant replays and reverse calls that could change the entire game, or even allow spectators at the stadium review a controversial call on a jumbo tron.
I was impressed that ESPN used technology similar to the NFL to look at offsides call which by far has to be one of the toughest calls to make especially when the runs are so close and the side ref has simultaneously look at the players position in relation to the other players when the ball is being played to him sometimes a pretty good distance away. I honestly don't think it would take away from the game to take a quick relook if it is close and results in a goal. It isn't like soccer is a high scoring affair to begin with (not usually) and I really don't think it would take anything away. Human error is always going to be there but don't penalize a team when the technology is available and it really wouldn't ruin the sport in my opinion.
