    Mattel's second quarter earnings...

More than doubled... thanks to Toy Story 3, Barbie, and Hot Wheels. One key statement in this report. Due to the rising cost of oil, resin, and labor they may be raising prices... Food for thought

Typical. I have never seen anything actually go down any more it is always up and up and up some more. Good for them profit wise. Bad for kiddies and collectors that have small budgets.

LOL...earnings are up DOUBLE from a year ago and the story is that they are going to start charging more. Somehow that doesn't make sense, but I guess that's the way it goes.

I'm an ebay sniper anyway...I RARELY buy anything new and I'm willing to wait on ANYTHING.

That is smart strategy on your part. The wait is what gets most collector's. I have learned to become pretty patient myself. After all good things happen to those who wait. I do believe that is true for the most part.

It was only $.14 a share compared to $.06 last year. I know this isn't big time earnings season but sales were only up 13% so it's not like they're batting it out of the park.

This Time last yr, DC Universe figures were 9.99 a piece.
Now they are 14.95 a piece

This time last yr, JLU Figures were 5.99 a Piece...
Now they are 8.99 a piece.

              and so forth.
So Sure, Earning's are up ...., but I think it's mis-interprited as to product moved. Probably the same,... or less.

Yeah, I noticed those price increases as well. I was buying the DC Universe figures a $9.99 which I thought was a fair price. Then as you mentioned they were "suddenly" raised to $14.99 each. That is when I stopped buying them.

Not that I am on any budget. I am mainly all about the principal. Whether you have money or not no one likes to be screwed. Well, not like that anyway.

I may have felt different if they started packaging the figures with a kiss or something.

I started out with every 1 of them ....
Now since wave 13 ...., I am a bit more selective. I only bought 3 figures so far, and the Build a figure threw some deals on Ebay.

It seems as if the same will be done with the next 3 waves.
If these figures were still 9.99 ..., I would collect them all, ... now I have to group interests with Funds , and treat them like all the rest of the figures I collect, and pick and choose , I suppose.

I hear you man. Have patience my friend. These will go back down in price eventually. That and there are always some peeps out there buying them now and will end up selling them later to free up some of their funds for other ventures. They will be plentiful. I would not sweat it.

Since I have a business background and a minor in Economics; I always am thinking on the business side of things.

I don't collect the figures but based on the little I can gather; $9.99 seemed like a really good price but $14.99 is a stretch. I'm guessing that prices will eventually fall somewhere in between. Maybe DC raised the royalty rate so they in turn had to increase prices to keep current profit margins up????

I personally think that the comic/movie market is starting to become saturated. We all love our comic heroes and know more than the average Joe. Superman and Spidey have done well because the story lines always involve a love story beneath the surface. F4 did well because there was a love story. Believe me, my wife will not watch a Super Hero movie on the big screen or even on TV unless there is a love story. Most of us here on the board will watch true comic book super hero stories but it won't appeal to a Nationwide audience.

I think that it really boils down to greed. The CEO's can never get enough $$$ no matter how much they make. So the companies test the waters by "fishing" the collectors to see who will pay what.

There are people out there without any budgets at all and they will buy what they want for whatever price it is. Good for the toy companies. Bad for the kiddies and collector's that have to be on a small budget.

For every person that will not pay the ridiculous price there will be one with more money than brains that will. These are the people that continue to make the big companies bigger and richer.

I feel that there is absolutely nothing wrong with prospering. I like to prosper as much as the next person. I just don't like it when greed sets in.
