I'm a happy camper about this being a Red Sox fan. My question is, does Torre deserve to lose his job over this. I don't think so. With the way the yankees started they were lucky to make the playoffs.

Now y'see, if you were a real red sox fan, you probably shoulda been rootin for the Yankees. Their #1 starter imploded in both his post-season starts, and other than Andy Pettitte, they have no experienced and reliable starting pitching. The Indians on the other hand, have two bigtime studs in Sabathia and Carmona, who you will have the pleasure of dealing with twice each in a 7 game series. Good luck with that.
I'd like to see Torre come back, since I don't lay any of the blame for this most recent post-season failing at his feet, and I just plain like the guy. He has the players' support in his corner, that's for sure. But at this point, after 12 seasons and several successive early ousters and at the end of his existing contract, if George was ever gonna turn the page, it will probably be now. -
I don't think Torre' deserves the blame for this. I think it's a case of his players just being paid too much and they're not as hungry anymore to win. Plus many have been there a long time so they are comfortable being on the team.
Truthfully if he could stay as long as he likes it would be fine with me. He has outlasted every other manager hired under Stienbrener's tenure. He took the Yankees to 3 WS in row and that's no small feat under the system they have now. Much different than when Casey Stengel was manager in the 1950's. Stengel had a more relaxed system and managed to get the team to many WS but even so in his day many of those WS's were against other NY teams. Torre' has not won every WS & etc. they have had but he has kept the team at a certain level of quality. He has kept them preforming at a high standard. You can't always deliver the hits you need on que but they have given us a lot of good baseball, ( and I'm not much of a sports fan myself).
I also think Torre has been staying with the team in the hopes he can get them into one more world series before he exits. He's been trying for the past few years and I don't think it's going to happen. This would be a good time for him to say goodbye if he wants to leave on his own terms-instead of getting fired.Last edited by johnmiic; Oct 9, '07, 9:10 AM.Comment

The Yankees were probably the worst team in the AL playoffs--I hardly see why that is Torre's fault. But, who cares about what happens to the Yanks--The ALCS is gonna be an awesome series. As a baseball and Indians fan, I can't wait.Comment

Torre doesn't deserve to be fired...but knowing the owner he expects alot and so I can see it happening.Do I want it to happen ..no.I'd like them to go to their young starters and build from there. The Indians were the better team in the series. I'm gonna enjoy the Indians Beating the Redsux......Last edited by kingdom warrior; Oct 9, '07, 1:36 PM.Comment

If he were anywhere else I'd say no,but it's New York and with the teams he's had lately he should be winning more, maybe not the pitching, but come on..they still have Clemens,A-Rod probably the greatest of all time and MVP this year plus Jeter,I don't know guys...I think he's going bye bye"Time to nut up or shut up"-Tallahassee

I am not a Yankees fan (I follow the lowly Orioles) but it is nice to see someone else playing in the WS besides the Yankees.
And I agree about A-Rod. He is an incredible player with hopefully many good years ahead of him. If he can keep healthy and keep hitting the way he's hitting and he will smash Barry Bonds home run record before his career is over. Seems like a very nice and well grounded player without a big ego.
Although I don't follow baseball to a large extent, I would love to see the Orioles some big bucks to A-Rod to jump ship and come play in Baltimore. Cal Ripken Jr. almost single handedly made the Orioles a good team and they need a team leader if they ever hope to get back to the winning ways."The farther we go, the more the ultimate explanation recedes from us, and all we have left is faith."

Cal Ripkin Jr, The greatest player of our time!!! This man single-handedly saved baseball when it was floundering back in the early 90's.
I do not like the Yankees, but I like the players (same with Boston). I love the history of these two teams.
I kind of remember a quote, don't remember who said it, but it was something like:
"American history can be traced (or studied) through the history of baseball."sigpicComment

Torre certainly doesn't deserve to be fired. If there is anyone in the majors that should have job security based on success, its him.
The Yankees real problem... Steinbrenner. And as long as he is associated with the franchise (or baseball) in any manner, their failures are good for baseball, and gratifying for me personally. Any owner that can completely decimate one of the best lineups in baseball history (1977/1978 Yankees) in a matter of a couple of years can never be forgiven.

"People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But baseball has marked the time. This field, this game: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. "Comment

Yes Steinbrenner was a pain in the 80's and early 90's but when he left the team alone and he let the powers that be bring in Torre the Yanks did a 360 and returned to glory....and by the way when the Yanks are good it's good for baseball everyone who loves them tunes in everyone who hates them tunes in... also everyone brings up their game to a higher notch....Network Television would rather have Yankees/ Red sox any day than anything else higher ratings means they can charge higher rates for commercials.Comment
