AMEN! Even if you do the work yourself it still sucks doing a ton of bodywork and it's messy! Here in the 'rust belt" it is not uncommon for the body and paint to run $10-15K on a rust bucket. Now that is at a top notch restoration shop and when they are done it is arrow straight and like glass but it is by far the most expensive part of the resto.The best advise I can give someone wanting to do some restore, is to buy decent one to begin with, but that needs some restoration.
She turned out real nice Zemo. Love the color too.

Thanks man, i put more in to this one than I was going to. On these coupes it ranges from 5k to 10k. This one came out to like 8k. The reason it varies is on how good the chassis is to begin with, the better the body the nicer i'll make it.
The body would have be toast. Iv'e bought two bodies before to make a good one.
The best advise I can give someone wanting to do some restore, is to buy decent one to begin with, but that needs some restoration.

That's just freakin' awesome. Zemo, it must feel incredible to possess the GIFT for restoration. I do have some questions about that craft though - How much do you typically have to invest in a restoration, like the one pictured in this thread? Heh...You should paint each side of the car a different color Hector. Front, back, and each side. then when you decide you dont like the one color, you just have to approach the car from the side with the color you like...
Or go all Mark Donahue and paint it in stripes...

I bought the 08 on Ebay...Its a salvage vehicle, that I did the restoration on. Saved a ton, and made it affordable for me. probably paid 8500 total when it was complete.
THe 68 I bought in 89 right out of high school, paid 1,000. for it from my friends parents. Spent 20 years bringing that one back....

I was wondering if you, or anyone you might know, has ever tried working with the reproduction Mustang bodies you can get now?
the girlfriend wants a vintage Mustang with all the modern amenities....I'm thinking it might be cheaper to get a scrapper and retro fit one of these repro bodies. Problem is I know a guy who ordered one of the Camaro ones, and he spent more time trying to align the chassis, than he would have restroing an original one. My first car was a 74 mustang. It was dark blue, with a grey top. It had a mood roof. I didn't even care that it was a 6 cylinder. I'd love to get that car back and restore it with a 302. My second car was a 68 Mustang Fastback, I restored that one and love driving it still...now I have an 08 Mustang...other cars are nice, but I deffinately have the mustang bug. You did a fantastic job on the restoration. The color looks sweet, and the chrome and the pony interior really pop. Super nice work. I love seeing your projects being posted. Keep up the phenomenal work. Its like watching overhaulin, but with cars I like. LOL64-66 are my favorites...first coupes (shocker to some), then fastbacks...and lastly convertibles (that's for chicks or dudes with lots of hair, lol).
The slightly larger 67-68 looks more awesome as fastbacks.
The more massive 69-73...too many different looks to pinpoint a favorite body.
Then the 74-78 Mustangs all turned into Pintos...
