say what you want about him but this guy was the best owner in sports, he spent w/e it took to win championships, I wish we could've had someone like him down here, RIP George, I'm sure your Yankee's will always keep on winning

Love 'em or hate 'em, he was arguably the most influential owner in the history of pro sports. The debilitating dementia he suffered from made him a shadow of his former self in recent years, but his death will still reverberate throughout the baseball world. I keep meaning to read Bill Madden's recent book about him...

As a hardcore Yankee fan this brings sadness to my heart. love him or hate him the man took a franchise in decay bought them for a mere 8 million dollars and turned the team around. Firings,Hirings never a dull moment with him.The team under him won 7 out of 10 World series they were in. He refurbished the original then rebuilt a new stadium and started a network. among many of his non baseball contributions yeah he even got pardoned by a President......

            Thanks George you'll be missed.

Who will be taking over ownership of the Yankees?

I always liked Steinbrenner, even as a non Yankees fan. He made the most of a broken system. He deserved a lot of credit for that. Who wouldn't want an owner that stopped at nothing to win.

I wasn't sure if you could "Will" a sports franchise to your children upon your death or not since I think all of the other owners have to vote on it in addition to the cash.

I remember that being a big issue when Jack Kent Cook died (previous Redskins owner). I don't remember the details of the Estate but I do remember his son was attempting to purchase the Redskins but Daniel Snyder came in and bought it. I can't remember if it was an issue related to the "Will" or the current NFL owners not wanting Cook's son to own the Redskins.
