Ate bad food - what should I do ?

Just went shopping today at A&P

    It's a chain grocery store.

Bought a bag of store brand begals - they were frozen.

Ate one even though it tasted weird and was kind of hard.

I started to feel a little queezie.

I looked at the expiration date and it says July 09

Man, that really made me feel worse.

Selling a bread product that's over a year old.

Deciding if I should complain to my local store or call the 1 800 headquarters number ?

    I kept the reciept.

    What would you do ?

    BTW, I still feel queezie.

Before you say a word, go back to the store to see if there are any others in the freezer that are out of date. Odds are, there probably are. If there are, you can chuckle when they act sceptical about your claim (and they will). If they are sceptical, walk them back and show them the other out of date product. Watch them change their tune.

I would call headquarters and the Better Business Bureau

Then I would get on Twitter and Facebook and then also find my county's health department and tell them

take some pepto bismol (sp?), bro

Where as this might not be settling in your stomach, what you need to look for for any food poisoning would be 12 to 36 hours after you have eaten the product. Since it was a frozen product, assuming that it hadn't been thawed before, you will probably be OK. If you have the receipt, all should be OK for you to get a refund. I would actually consider calling the BBB or health department about the incident. Lately, I've been finding expired dates at our local grocery store, too and I have complained to the manager a few times. Being the parent of young kids and seeing how many elderly shop there, too, it bothers me. It also bothers me that I have to look at labels for exp dates when I shop.
          It's all good!

              That's what I want.

I couldn't care less about getting a cheap bag of replacement bagels

I want some kind of extra compensation for eating a year out of date product and getting sick from something today in their store.

Was wondering if it's better to complain to the store or the 800 number.

I kind of figure the store will just brush me off and offer a replacement ... Stores are kind of funny that way.

I'm sorry you got sick, Mike.

But why in the world are you buying frozen bagels for?

Breads were not meant to be frozen...next time buy fresh stuff.

BTW...definitely take that stuff back...at least get your money back.

Because they're 4 times cheaper than fresh bagels

Well, you, as the consumer, have your part in this, too. I don't want to be unsympathetic, but you did eat out of date bagels when the date was clearly printed on the bag. Now, you didn't notice that until you felt queezy, but damn Dude...they go to the trouble of putting that date there for the consumer, as well. When you start stating things like, "I want extra compensation for eating a year out of date product"....they are going to point out, "Oh, now you recognize it was out of date.".

I could be wrong but frozen foods are allowed a two year expiration date, Mike.

I always do too...I'm obsessed about expiration dates...especially on stuff like milk.

I always reach for the cartons on the back...they are always the freshest...
