One of my good friends from way back (who is now a PhD) used to teach Junior High History.

Any time his Students would ask, "Coach Craig, why do we need to know this stuff?", his patent answer would be, "So you don't look like an idiot on The Tonight Show.".

They seemed to get that.

A "chef" is an official title either gained from certification or, at least
a more focused set of classifications--- while "artist" is not as far as I know.

I've attended both universities and junior college...and let me tell you...sometimes the junior college instructors are actually better teachers than some of the overrated professors at universities.

Oh, I agree, believe me. I was just pointing out Jay's gaff.. which lead to the earlier incorrect title being used as well.

Professors have earned the title, as have instructors I suppose.

As mentioned earlier...except for the button at the end of the segment they
don't SHOW the "smart" ones. It's a COMEDY bit....not an IQ display.

...and the thing is I'm not surprised.

OK, here's how my 18 year old did.

(1) What is the 4th about? Answer = "Independence Day" (A)

(2) Independence from who or what? Answer = "England" (A)

(3) What famous American General is credited for the win? Answer = "Washington" (A)

(4) How many initial colonies were there? Answer = "13" (A)

(5) What famous person rode a horse through town warning of attack? Answer = didn't know (F)

(6) What quote was this person famous for making to warn of the attack? Answer = "The British are Coming, etc." (A)

(7) What, or who, are the Minutemen? Answer = "Men ready to fight on notice" (A)

(8) Why did General Washington cross the Delaware? Answer = "To fight the British" (C+)

All in all he did quite well, and much better than I had thought he would do. Props to him.

My 9th grade daughter didn't fare as well though.. I stopped quizzing her after the 2nd question. Seems American History comes later for her (at High School), so I cut her some slack.
