They are SO cute! Thanks for posting that. That's a great pic.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
Adorable! I love guinea pigs and have owned 7 (not all at the same time): Mobie, Bandit, Moochie, Blizzard, Oreo, Boomer and Peanut. These were class pets, but for all intents and purposes they were mine as I saw to their care, feeding and vet appts. The kids took them home on weekends, and I took them when they couldn't.

I have had tons of cats and a few dogs, but never any GPs. Do they have much personality? It's about time to get my boys a pet, and I'm leaning towards another kitty but still undecided.
We keep ours in an indoor cage. They don't smell. . . .and are funny to watch. They are the sort of pet you can play with as much as you want or keep them fed and happy caged. . . .although they should get a bit of exercise. . . .back yard time.
My daughter (8) plays with them for hours at a time. The boy (10). . . .not so interested. Perhaps they are more of a girls pet.
My daughter actually had to change their cages tonight (new bedding and whatnot). You have to about once a week or so. So since they were out anyway they all got baths and nails clipped. She has 2 short hairs and 1 long hair. They are actually pretty good pets and yes, they do have their own personallities. Pepper lets her know when it's dinner time every single night.

They definitely have personalities. They all knew regfrigerator doors, plastic bags and white canvas totes meant FOOD, and would start "weeking". Some of them liked chewing metal (like chair legs or my baton), or the suede on my sneakers. Mobie was the only one who followed me around like a dog. I even trained a few of them to kiss me, (well, bump my lips when they heard me pucker). And guinea pigs make excellent first pets.

Great little pets. Very sociable. They should be kept in groups as they are naturally herd animals. (All same sex to prevent unwanted little ones - Think Rabbits!) Live 4-7 years with proper care, a large enough home (pet store cages too small) and floor time for exercise. Once they get used to you they calm down and become less skittish.
They do need a loving home with caring parents as kids will often get bored with them.
I had a long haired Peruvian GP in the 70's. He lived about 5 years. I remember taking a picture of our Brittany Spaniel curled up on the floor with my Persian cat and Ceder all sleeping. Wish I could find that picture.
Lots of info on the web about them. One site has a lot of info but is very obsessed with them, anti pet store and anti breeders.
