There is a big fight going on in the Tiger forum right now, some LSU fans saying it was classless of LSU fans (students most likely) and the others saying just a prank. I think it is funny and sophomoric, but not classless. The LSU/FLA rivalry has become something pretty big in the last few years, and these stupid pranks is part of the rivalry.

Wrong! Concerning the cell # being showed it is not part of any rivalry I've heard of on a national level. Not only is it classless and it's moronic! It's college football and it stays on the field. These's no need to make something personal away from the field. It comes back and makes the University look bad. Students a a UNiversity event represent the University. I looked over the LSU band/students singing a vulger song that could be heard by a televised audience. I do believe it was handled the right way with a warning though that if it happens again it would not be sung again.
I still don't know what happened with the cell thing..what they recorded his cell # and showed it somewhere?

Pranks have been part of football rivalries since college football has started. Back in the day, you stole the opposing team's mascot, or TP'ed their commons, etc. The cell phone thing is just a new high-tech prank. I did say it was sophomoric, and like you said moronic, but not classless. If I was a student now, I would probably would have called it, you do stupid stuff like that in college.

You cannot tell me in a couple weeks if some one at Tenn gets hold of a star player's cell number at SC or Ky, and was able to get the number around, it would not happen up there either.

As for the vulgar language, you can turn on any sporting event and if a bad call happens, you will hear BS being yelled by the fans all day long. The university and band are looking into switching the TD song because of the chant. When I attended LSU in the late 80's, we had a TD song that the students chanted along with that had a vulgar word in it, it was changed because of it.

Toys2, yesterday, ESPN Gameday was at LSU. You know the big thing is to make a sign to be seen in the background? Well someone got hold of Tebow cell number, put it on a sign and it got shown on national TV. Some people called the number and filled up his mailbox and some people text msg him.

Here is something classless, unsportsman-like, and actually should have drawn a penalty last night. FLA players during warm up stomping on the Eye of the Tiger. Auburn did the same thing three years ago and got a pre-game unsportsman-like penalty. What did LSU do? They got to kick off from the 50 yard line, so they on-side kicked it, got the ball and made a quick 7 pts:

First of all college pranks are NOT against any one person and are NOT nationally televised. Poor taste! Yes I can say that as a UT alum I would be turned off if it were to happen here. Pleasse name one other college where this has happened. Stealing a mascot is not a personal attack or an invasion of privacy. Don't compare the two.

I can understand the vulgar language thing but still don't agree with it and as I said I believe the apropriate action was taken.

          Tim,

I am not arguing with you, I agree, other than is was just a prank.

          soph·o·mor·ic (sŏf'ə-môr'ĭk, -mŏr'-) Pronunciation Key
          adj.

          1. Of or characteristic of a sophomore.
          2. Exhibiting great immaturity and lack of judgment: sophomoric behavior.

Half the signs held up at GameDay are a personal attack on the star player of the opposing team. These star players are in the limelight and are personally attacked/ judged everyday by the media and fans and know to expect it.

I am sure this was not the first time some one got hold of the opposing star player's cell number.

You're probably right that it may not have been the first time it was done but that does'nt make it right. Understand I'm not a Tebow fan, hell being a UT alum the Gators are on the bottom of my list but sometimes a line shouldn't be crossed against any team or especially any one player.
I understand the definition of sophomoric, How about this one which I think the act falls under.
Moronic: the act of a defective person having a potental mental age between 8-12 years of age capible of doing routine work under supervision.

Is there any prank that is "right"? All I am arguing is that it was not classless, just stupid. The players stomping on the logo is alot more classless than this stupid prank and just reflects poorly on the team more than anything.

Last thing I'll say on the subjuct: Why is it classless? Because it's giving out someone's personal information, period! What number of nutjobs now/had has his number? What about threats he and the school now has to put up with. Only a certain number of people had access to him, now millions do/did. He is not just a player but also a student who probably doesn't have the time to put up with this kind of crap! He doesn't get paid and who knows may never make a dime from playing if injuried. He's also a young kid! How many people would like thier personal info given out? NONE! It's beyond a prank and beyond classless!
Does it reflect on the LSU team or thier season? No. Just how idiotic one person is.
As far as some players stomping on another team's logo that would be poor sportsmanship = classless. It's not about defending one team or another just what a senseless and classless act it was to give out a kid cell number. Call it what you want but that's my 2 cents.
