    The Punisher on film

I watched War Zone last night after only seeing about half of it when it was released. I really, really liked this version. I'm not a fan of the way Jigsaw was played out as a cartoonish cliche, but overall was a strong and violent film. I have no idea what any critics or anyone here said about this, but this worked for me. The gore and blood was done perfectly and, sickening as it is to say, was pretty funny. IN one film you have two guys with heads that completely explode and one where his faces is literally caved in with a fist. How can that not win an award?

NOw, compared to the previous film with Thomas Jane, it's about a tie. I enjoyed that one as well. Again, the villain was pretty weak as Travolta was a pale satire of himself in the role, but the whole thing just worked. Again, the violence was played up for a little humor, it had to be.

All I remember about Dolph's verison was he drove a motorcycle through the sewers and sneered.

THe first one excluded, the Punisher just works on film. I've enjoyed these more that most superhero movies of the last decade, and this is coming from a non-Punisher fan. I literally do not own a single Frank Castle book. I can't think of too many other characters that could make the transition form page to film. Blade is pretty close. I'd like to see them take a stab at Moon Knight and have him against werewolves.

I enjoyed War Zone just as much as you did, couldn't agree more with what you just said

Ray Stevenson looked the part more than both Thomas Jane and Dolph Lundgren....Stevenson was a more menacing-looking Punisher.

Jigsaw was over the top...but fun...so was his crazy brother...lol.

I liked it...my favorite Punisher flick to date.

I liked the Thomas Jane version. Wasn't the greatest movie ever or anything, but was a decent little flick. War Zone seemed far too low budget.

              Axe,
I feel the exact opposite the Punisher DOESN'T work on film. He is simply another action "hero" and frankly other films have done it (Die hard, Under Seige, & Lethal Weapon come to mind immediately). Punisher is just another gun weilding man "out for Justice" (pun intended). By the time the first punisher was made it was an established genre at it's height of churning out "great gun movie" films and was pretty bad. Much like the great explosions in the CG era great gunfights lose their splendor. I suspect the same would be true for a car chase. We asssume it's all CG so the effect has to be so over the top we can no longer suspend disbelief)

when he appeared in the comics it was novel but on film he's just another guy despite the skull on his chest
