Maybe a "right answer" for Mia...but other than that...I don't see it.

Well, all I can say to that is I can privately put you in contact with several of my good friends who hate The Beatles because they love Elvis...and they will point to QT for justification. They have a 21 year track record of making a pilgrimage to Graceland, so you can guess what side of the argument they will come down on.

My friend Mark and I get shouted down on occasion when the subject comes up and Mark is an Elvis collector and Historian who happens to be a Beatles collector and Historian. He can tell you anything you want to know about Elvis or The Beatles. Somehow, they dismiss his Beatles penchant.

The arguments never go too far because Mark is 6' 2" and a Cop who could kick all of our butts. (But, I hear the resentment when he isn't around.)

but you really had me thinking with this last post you made especially.

I am a very excited individual who likes to pick others brains...
so when I saw you giving a better anecdotal-type definition

I can totally understand and I fully realize that my point of reference is skewed. However, in daily life, I am used to dealing with people that get "dichotomy".

I come from a State that is overwhelmingly registered Democrats, but almost always votes for a Republican for President. We are mostly Baptist, when we go to Church, but Heaven help us if we recognize each other in the Liquor Store....except that the other side of the family is German Catholic and, "So what...I'm in the Liquor Store?!". We appear White, but most of us can't pipe up too much in those arguments because we are from some Native American tribe, or in my case, also of Jewish decent, and there are many of us here who are made up of many different races and nationalities.

My long way of saying, "I am very used to having a dual mind about many given subjects AND I am used to dancing around a conversation with people who understand that principle.".

I can't make the choice and he never explained what the choice tells him about a person...only that one must choose one way or another to make some kind of impression. What was that impression?

Okay, okay...I'll freely admit that "not making a choice" is an option that negates QT's dialogue... I take back what I said about you "not getting it".

Also, please take into consideration that being "equally a
Beatles Man and an Elvis Man" says a lot about the kind of person
you are as well. And since that was what QT was getting at in the first
place...it's pretty possible to accept that choice as being
just as insightful about human behavior in spite of that choice not
getting mentioned in the dialogue.

He actually SAYS what you're saying.

No wonder he cut it from the finished movie... it's probably too hard
for most people to get on first listen/read.

On the contrary, it teaches me that I have come a long way in my understanding of things and I have to wonder what QT understands about dichotomy at this point in his life, as well.

Given that he is a pretty smart fellow, I bet he probably understood this at the time he wrote it and his words were not a true reflection of opinion, but merely an observation of how humans tend to like to be recognized by differences rather than similarities.

HUGE HUGE HUGE Elvis fan!!! I still remember sitting in front of my Dad's color TV and my whole family watching Aloha from Hawaii. My very first album was the live album Aloha from Hawaii

My wife this past christmas bought me an Ipod and loaded every Elvis song on to it....

Yeah, Aloha from Hawaii is the best Elvis album PERIOD. I have the live concert on VHS, laserdisc and DVD. I wore the VHS tape out and my laserdisc player is buggy so I hope the DVD lasts!

Funny story about that album. I had a lot of ELVIS records when I was a kid and one day my mom brought home Aloha from Hawaii. At the time I never really liked live albums, I thought the applause was too annoying. When I put the first record on (Aloha is a double record set) I was heart broken when I realized it was live. Then I gave it a chance and listened and I was SPELLBOUND. It quickly became my favorite and none has surpassed it since. Totally changed my thinking on live music as well. Now I much prefer live music from any of my favorite bands/artists. In fact, I think that live music is a true test of a band or artist. If they sound better live, they are a true talent. If they sound much worse live, then they are not (probably because the producer mixed the crap out of their voice because it sucks).

Love Elvis, and in fact everytime this one particular Elvis impersonator is in town we catch his show. Elvis Wade... looks and sounds like what the king would have looked and sounded like if he had made it into his 50's or so.

Funny thing, he's married to Sandy Posey, who actually sang back-up for Elvis a few times.
