America The Beautiful State Quarters (i'm a little let down)

    Need to rant

Was just reading about the America The Beautiful state quarter program and I have to admit i'm a little let down by my home state of New Jersey's choice of what to put on it.

Almost the whole country is listing scenic sites like forests, mountains, parks etc.

    What does NJ list ?

Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.

Now don't get me wrong, I love Ellis Island (my family was processed there) ... and the Statue which is wonderful ....
Also, no matter what Jersey claims the general public will always think the Statue is owned by New York.

    But, come on ....

New Jersey is one of the most scenically beautiful states around.
Why put a crusty old building on it -- and the Statue (which is overused).

I can think of a at least a dozen BETTER examples of NJ's beauty - N.J. Pine Barrens for one.

    Sorry for the rant

No pictures, but info about releases......

Sorry Mike, It's just how the world sees Jersey. Camden always comes to mind.

Here's a great example of one of Jersey's natural wonders
            The Delaware Water Gap.

Looks like these are based only on NATIONAL PARKS in the order they were created. I don't think scenery is a consideration other than if the park itself is about that (such as Yellowstone). Our PA quarter will be Gettysburg, probably a cannon or the PA monument.

Well... like the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the Delaware Water Gap is shared with another state- PA. In fact, the Park HQ is in Bushkill, PA.

But the Pine Barrens are all Jersey AND a National Reserve. Thomas Edison's house is a National Park in Edison, NJ.

I always think NJ generally suffers psychologically from a little bit of New York envy on the whole. Kinda like a big brother complex.

Maybe I just think that because I'm so used to Toronto's envy of almost EVERY OTHER CITY. This is a great city, yet everyone here in the media and politics can shut up about trying to prove that it's a "world class city" all the time.

New Jersey is awesome - you guys have WFMU, Springsteen and Sopranos!

On the bad side you have "Jersey Shore" - maybe you should feel lucky they didn't put that Snooky twit on the coin?

You're lucky. What did Michigan pick? An image of Michigan. Much thought must have gone into this choice.
