    The best ever...without a doubt.

The San Francisco Chronicle gave him his first brake by syndicating his one-panel strip.

I saw his exhibit in San Francisco a few years ago...to be able to see many of his original strips...surreal.

    Enjoy!!!

I love(d) both of those features (The Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes) and it has always stuck with me that they ended in the same calendar year.

The Far Side was a milestone for me. It was very gratifying for me, as a kid, to run to an adult with a panel and have them affirm that I "got it". It made me feel grown up and sophisticated when that happened.

I think a lot of what I loved about Toy Story came from a connection to Calvin and Hobbes. Both are funny, but there was something very sweet going on under the surface of what most people were reading into it. Maybe that goes back to The Velveteen Rabbit for me. Whatever...the three are closely tied together in my mind and experience.

At any rate, I realized at the time they had both ended, that it must be very hard to sustain something like The Far Side or Calvin and Hobbes forever. Either would have eventually become a disappointment had they gone on for much longer. These were run as dailies and if you can imagine producing that kind of quality day in and day out.......well, there is precious little in any medium that was that consistent for that long.

I saw that exhibit as well (only in New York), I was visiting the Mueseum for something else and the Far Side exhibit was an added bonus!

Definitely my favorite comic strip! He was so clever....
