    The Far Side appreciation thread

I cannot think of many things that had such a profound influence on my personality and sense of humor. Gary Larson really looked at the world around us with a skewed perspective. His sense of irony, cynicism and honesty combined to make him one of the greatest cartoonists ever. I can remember looking through some of his books in B. Dalton while in high school and literally being in tears. I eventually bought some of those compilations, but have misplaced them over the years.

It's amazing how much he could convey in one square panel and a caption. There have been a few cartoonists who have tried to capture the same single panel magic, but they all fail in comparison. There will never be another one like Larson.

Oh man. I love Far Side. I miss him.
Wish he was still doing them.

yeah i really love his sense of humor! especially when he uses the cute chubby kid with glasses. i remember he was pushing a door to a building instead of pulling it and the building stated "school for the gifted" lol!

I love the Far Side, I used to have a flip calendar for each day of the year, every year at work.

Haha love that Super one Scott.

I can't find my favourite one. It has a full plane except for one seat, and you see this weirdass passenger coming to sit next to this guy. It reminds me of me, I always get the really strange passengers choosing to sit next to me and try to avoid public transport whenever possible.

Since the end of the Far Side and also Calvin and Hobbes I don't even look at the comics page in our daily anymore....the stuff that came up in years afterward is so pedestrian and mundane compared to what Gary Larson and Bill Watterson were doing.

I can't find one of my favorites either, but it's two guys bedding down next to each other in hell, and one guy's saying : "Wake up, Bob! It's only a nightmare! Of course, we ARE still in hell."

Gary Larson is so awesome that they renamed the spikes on the tail of the Stegosaurus thanks to this one.

I have a few of the compilations, and used to have a few faves posted in my office. Great stuff, I wish I was even half as clever.

The Complete Far Side often tempts me.

As does the Complete Calvin and Hobbes.

I've flipped through the demos in the bookstore. Beautiful package. It looks like it would take a forklift to carry them home without hurting yourself though.

I tried to keep up after Calvin and TFS stopped. Get Fuzzy is a great one but i don't look at it anymore. I really need to as it is so funny.
