Bill Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar...with Stone Cold as referee...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLGTu6L-1S4
I didn't see this match live because that's the year I was in intensive care.
But the match itself was lame, disappointing, and pointless...obviously all three wrestlers involved where just going through an easy routine...it did not live up to expectations...the only great thing was that Stone Cold gave them both stunners at the end...lol."Time to nut up or shut up"-Tallahassee

“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

It sucked because they were both on the way out. Originally everyone knew Goldberg was leaving and then it got out Brock was leaving too. So nobody cared about two guys who would no longer be there. The best thing about that match was the crowd!Comment

JDS, Well....I MISSED the heel turn because I never watched WCW. I was and still am a WWF loyalist. I have seen it since mind you with the help of WWF DVD´s but I think the heel turn would´ve worked better with WWF being that he was the WWF´s top guy.
In my opinion he turned heel in the wrong org. You do your best moments in the big leagues of Baseball....NOT in AAA. Hogan doing it in WCW just stinks for me.
Like a lot of this topic, Hogan turning heel in the 1990's WWF wouldn't have made any sense. It only worked because it was WCW and more in the South. It's pretty clear that if you only lived this through the DVDs and such, don't seem to grasp what the atmosphere at the time was.
Easily the hottest angle in the history of modern wrestling and executed to perfection simply because it was in WCW.Last edited by ODBJBG; Jun 21, '10, 12:34 AM.Comment

yeah due to the internet all the smart marks knew Brock was quitting and Goldberg and WWE could not get a contract done so both could have cared less about how the match looked. The crowd was pretty brutal though.Comment

For a perfect example on how Hogan's heel turn would have been handled by the WWE... see Stone Cold's heel turn after Wrestlemania X-Seven. Hohum.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

WWE, and TNA both are boring and repetitive snoozefests, have been for the last 10 years. Go watch some Ring of Honor, those guys can actually wrestle...Comment

Actually, the WWF hasn't always been the Big Leagues.
In fact for a long time it was just a regional promotion, like all the others.
It was a North East promotion, and even when Vince Jr took it over from his old man, and managed to score the whole Rock n Wrestling promotion... it was still just a North East promotion that managed to get attention.
If you grew up in NY or surrounding states, all you knew was WWF. That made it big... to those of us up north. And to spanish speakers, since Vince was smart enough to syndicate a spanish version of their show to Univision.
But if you grew up in the MidWest? AWA, SMW
If you grew up in Georgia or Florida? GCW, Championship Wrestling from Florida, NWA
If you grew up on Texas? WCCW
Memphis? Mid-South, Memphis Wrestling... area best known for Jerry The King Lawler's feud with Andy Kaufman. An event big enough to be carried on NBC.
There's more I'm leaving out... like CMLL in Mexico, New Japan, etc.
Most of these promotions were members on either the AWA or the NWA, which WERE the Big Leagues. They were International, when being International meant something.
The WCW actually carried the lineage of the old NWA, and carried the deep pockets of Ted Turner. Money and History... the two things WWF never managed to have at the same time until recently.
So, yes, NOW the WWE is considered the Big Leagues, only because of a lack of competition. But for a while, it was part of the BIG TWO... WWF and WCW.
And in regards to Hulk Hogan's HOME promotion? Well... he started in Florida, went to Vince Sr in the WWWF as a HEEL and was fired, became a big shot in the AWA (right after Rocky III) where the persona of fan favorite HULK HOGAN emerged, is STILL considered ICHIBAN in Japan...
I'd say, Hogan's home promotion is whichever pays his paycheck that week.Last edited by LadyZod; Jun 22, '10, 1:11 AM.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

To me WCW was the best wrestling ever!!! I Love all the old mid-atlantic NWA wrestling. The old RAW vs Nitro Monday night wars I miss so bad, both were very good in the 90s. Goldberg would have kissed A anywhere and Vince should have gotten Sting. When the NWO happened it was the best!!!Comment

all the video and dvd you see now is tainted by Vince since he won the wars and bought all the rights for the footage.
WCW and WWE at were equals from 97-2000 until Russo got his hands on the book and ran WCW under in '01. The WCW rise to power was Vince's fault as he would push an older wrestler out for his new flavor of the month. Hogan was retired from US wrestling for 2 years doing the Thnder in paradise show and new japan spots becuase in 93 vince was done with him and he resented Hogan testifying against him in the steroid scandal.
he started with WCW in mid 94 and was a face there for 2 years it was his precence and the return of other 80's stars vince threw out that made it grow and older wrestling fans like me watched both. WCW forced WWF to adopt the live monday format and DX was a response to the NWO.
But as the 80's stars got older and older wcw made the mistake to go for Brett hart the last jewel of the early 80's wcw didn't have and had to give up most of the best younger talents in exchange (like Jericho) and to bring the Warrior out his hole in the wall (or ringmat trap door if you will)
for a little while both shows were great and the rivalry made it better for the fans.
When vince has no competrition the show suffers from overproduction and no talents like the miz on the mike
We'll see if history repeats with TNA as the new WCW with hogan there along with EX ecw adn wwf star RVD, jeff Hardy etc. who knows maybe we can get a few years of good programming out of Vince if he feels threatened againLast edited by jds1911a1; Jun 22, '10, 1:05 PM.Comment
