Growing up in Philly, I always thought these were a one of the basic food groups... along with soft pretzels and cheesesteaks.

I wouldn't discover Zingers until I got older. When I was a kid, they were nothing but a tease, taunting me when Dolly Madison would sponsor the Charlie Brown specials.

For me, it depends on the flavor of the Zinger. If it's chocolate, it wins out over the Twinkie. If it's vanilla, there's something kind of off-putting about the plastic-like consistency of the frosting on the Zinger.

I partially agree.
I do love their Krimpets and Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes ... but their regular donuts and cupcakes are kind of dead and ordinary.
As a matter of fact store donuts taste better than Tasty-Kake ones.
