Most cysts in the body are benign (functional), the result of plugged ducts or other natural body outlets for secretions. However, a few are tumors or are produced within tumors, and are potentially malignant:
Chances are yours is benign.
Don't worry about it in advance.
My mom used to get them all the time. None were ever malignant. But it's still a good idea to get it looked at. This is kind of embarrassing, but all my life I had what I considered a giant mole on the back of my head. I have somewhat thin hair and it was really noticable. Working with kids, I've gone through a lot of "Ewww, what's that?" And in recent years, I've been unable to wear my hair pulled up as it got bigger. It started to look gross, so I had the doctor look at and remove it. He thinks it's an abnormally large(but benign) skin tag, but the peace of mind was completely worthwhile.
Hey! Where's the waiter with the water for my daughter?
I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist about a decade ago. A lump showed up all of a sudden on my wrist...hurt like anything and I honestly thought I might have broken my wrist playing soccer and didn't realize it.
I saw an orthopedic surgeon who attempted to drain it a few times with a syringe but it just filled back up with fluid. My only option was surgery which I elected. The doctor said it was good that I had the surgery. The cyst was benign but it was pretty big (a lot of it was beneath my skin which couldn't be seen with the naked eye).
I really wouldn't worry about it since cysts are fairly common. Best of luck.

my youngest daughter had one on her face right on her cheekbone when she was 2. because she was so little they had to put her under to remove it. even though it was a routine thing it was scary as hell for us as parents. the plastic surgeon who removed it said cutting into her little face was the hardest thing he had ever done. he also said it was a good thing we brought her in because by the time we got to the surgery day it was ready to burst.
