    It's official: Boomerang now sucks

Last night I had it on Boomerang, barely paying attention while I drew on the couch. Suddenly, after a commerical for the Ben 10 movie set to air on Cartoon Network, "Out of Jimmy's Head" comes on. "Out of Jimmy's Head" is a new live-action/animated show that just debuted on CN. I think to myself "I must have changed it over to Cartoon Network". Nope. It was airing on Boomerang, the "classic cartoon network".

So, depsite the vastness of the Hanna Barbera, MGM and Warner Bros libraries, they'd rather air a new show whose only connection to classic cartoons is that the main character has the brain of a Walt Disney-type animator in his head. Ugh.

That's why I said I'll be watching more of Toon Disney. They're running both Superman and Batman:TAS.

I don't have BOOMERANG, but I know what you're talking about... What is it with ALL of those networks (Sci-Fi, TV Land, MTV, etc.)? The programming is there to fill their schedule, and yet they show things that are totally NOT related to the niche they're supposed to be filling...

It's like on Adult Swim... They have that show that is not animated in any way and it has lower production values than anything Krofft put out...

Wow, glad I'm not around to see Boomerang's decline, it was one of my favorite channels

Saul of the Mole Men? That's really not a bad show. It's a spoof of the old Krofft shows. But I have to agree with the other channels. Especially Nick At Nite. Why do they have something like The George Lopez Show on there?

I'm sickened by not surprised. Boomerang doesn't show "commercials", just in-house promos...but I could swear that every freakin' one is for either "Out of Jimmy's Head" or "Fried Dynamite". I think they are trying to tap into the live-action market that Nickelodeon and Disney Channel have been so successful in. Unfortunately it's spilling over into areas where it shouldn't, like Boomerang.

This is typically of the Turner-run stations though. They hit you over the head again and again with stuff and you can't avoid it. "Three chances to watch"..."Beastmaster"...need I say more?

              Boomerang needs to improve bigtime!

My son is 5 & daughter almost 4, all they like to watch on Boomerang are mostly the older TV shows. His Favorite is the Superfriends ( especially with Flash ) then " Space Ghost from the originals " Birdman - when shown? He caught it on once or twice. He also likes Mighty Mightor and because of that my son wants a 6 inch Mighty Mightor action figure, but besides Mego i dont think any were made.

As far as new shows he only likes Swat Kats.

I was hoping they would bring back Thundarr the Barbarian, The Herculoids, The 70's Flash Gordon toon or was that 80's? Old Fantastic four, basically anything 60's or 70's & 80's.

Todays kids really could get into that stuff, heck my son & Daughter do as does my little cousins.

Comcast is really slow to get the good channels. It took forever to get CN, and while I got some good toons out of it, it jumped the shark. I'm sure that if they ever decided to carry Boomerang, it would suck by the time I got it.

Actually at first, they had all kinds of good stuff OnDemand for Boomerang: Dastardly & Muttley, Space Ghost, Scooby Doo, Jetsons, Flintstones, Jonny Quest, but then it fizzled. It rarely has more than one page now (when it first started it was 4 pages long!) Now it's one page, and they're showing Dexter's Lab!

I only like most specialty channels during their initial years because they play a lot of older obscure programming, then it seems their business plan shifts to creating original programming which is a mixed bag.

You sometimes get a Mystery Science Theatre or a Harvey Birdman but you also get "Mansquito".

As for Boomerang, it's a channel devoted to retro shows, original programming unless it's documentaries about those original shows seems like a rip off.

Well, the schedule was back to normal last night. 8 PM-MGM toons, 8:30-Flintstones, etc. So I guess that's not too bad.

I wait for the eventual takeover by the CN original toons though. Dexter and Cow and Chicken have already come over. Just waiting for Ed, Edd and Eddy. Sigh.

                          >As far as new shows he only likes Swat Kats.

New....? SWAT-Kats is almost 15 years old. Co-inkey-dinkelley enough; I just finished converting my tapes to DVD. It's my second favourite cartoon of all time, and until recently the last really good action show N. America produced. (There were VERY few morals, just two guys in a plane blowing stuff up. Now THAT'S entertainment!) I guess it was popular, but Turner himself pulled the plug. And then made another five seasons of "Captain Planet."

                          *shudder*

                          >I was hoping they would bring back Thundarr the Barbarian, The Herculoids, The 70's Flash Gordon toon or was that 80's? Old Fantastic four, basically anything 60's or 70's & 80's.

THUNDARR!!!!!! I've been told that there are a LOT of rights issues with the old cartoons. Back in the late 80's/early 90's when the Japanese stuff got popular companies scooped up every cartoon they could. And then sat on them; waiting for each to become the "next big thing."

There's a lot of it out there, too. The 80's saw a boom in animation, and so many shows came out. And died just as fast; but still....

Yep, that's the one... Maybe it isn't a bad show, but what I'm getting at is why is it on The Cartoon Network? I've never seen an episode of the show, but from the tiny bits I've seen on commercials it doesn't appear to be animated in any way...
