Making going to the movies an event

Do you ever take your kids to eat somewhere that is publicizing the movie you're going to right before the movie? Or maybe you've bought them a shirt or cap w/ the characters from that movie so they can wear it when you go? I don't have my own kids, but I remember taken these 2 boys to Burger King before we went to see Aladdin to get color change Jafar cups. When I took a little girl to see Shrek, we went to Baskin Robbins to get the Shrek flavored cone they had out. And of course I had to wear Star Trek shirts and caps when I saw a Trek film in the theatre.

So do you do anything special to get ready foor your movie night?

All the time... I wore my "Avatar" T-shirt 16 out of the 17 times I saw it in the theater. Only time I didn't wear it was the first time... I've gone to screenings of the original Star wars trilogy in full costume. Watched "Re-Animator" at a film festival with Stuart Gordon sitting right next to me in a pretty much empty theater in Texas... Got a personal director's commentary! Sat next to Gale Ann Hurd at a cast and crew screening of "The Abyss", and got some juicy tidbits as well... Movies should be celebrated as an event whenever possible...

I'm really looking forward to doing the rounds with "Hunter Prey"... SDCC next month, NY in August, then off to Spain in September for Festival Fantastic Estepona!

First off...Sharry...Sandy...you both rock!!! Yes...if a movie is special to you, play it up!

I don't have kids, but I've been a mentor and an Uncle and if a kid is looking forward to a movie, it has always been fun for me to make some kind of event of it.

Going close to opening day, hitting a fun restaurant of the kid's choice beforehand, and getting the works at the concession stand usually make it feel like an event.

When the first X-men movie came out I went to it done up like Wolverine, both of my boys wanted to go as Wolvie also. So the 3 of us strutted or stuff to the movie as Wolverine, claws and all!!! It was a really fun time! Had some people take photos with me, pretty cool.

Anytime I spend 65 bucks on something,... it IS an Event.

When a Movie comes out that may have merchandise with the property, after the Boy and I see the Flick, We would go to the store, and maybe pick up a few figures, or a Game for him that ties into the Movie. After seeing Ironman, we scored a few figures at Target, and a Slurpie Cup at 7-11. It was Fun stuff.

since we mostly only go to the drive in with the kids, it is always an event......cooler full of beer and juice boxes, lots of snacks, boom box and frisbees, baseballs, footballs etc....we always ahve a good time.

on the rare occasion we go to an indoor theater, it is usually an event movie, not in summer or not a movie playing the drive in - ie Star Wars, in which case I usually bring the kids to Toys R US afterwards to buy some new toys....we did that with Star Trek and Indiana Jones most recently......they were not interested in Avatar toys

No one was. Talk about peg warmers... Unbelievable how it's the top grossing film of all time and the toys are sitting on the shelves. I just saw them at my local grocery store the other day, marked down to 2.99 from 9.99

We usually make it a fun event the whole month leading up to the opening of the film.
Games, toys what ever.If the kids are really looking forward to something we go all out.You are only a kid once and should enjoy the experience of the movies.
There are not alot out in recent times that are as iconic or influential as the ones that came out when we were kids.

When X-Men 2 came out, Baskin-Robbins was featuring the X-Mint ice cream and better yet, the X-Mint milkshake. Before going to see the film we went for some X-Mint milkshakes. After the movie too.

I loved the X-Mint ice cream. I know they just renamed an existing flavor and I wish I knew which one because I need another X-Mint milkshake. I spilled some on a notebook once and I kept the notebook page, making notations that the substance was actual X-Mint shake. Still have it. Yeah I'm a little weird, but I'll always remember that great milkshake and those great times.

                      I miss you, Jase!

Now with my son, we usually get caught up in the Happy Meal, pajama, & toy tie-ins. How To Train Your Dragon was popular in my house. I liked that movie. I wonder why there was no Fury-Mint Dragon milkshake at Baskin-Robbins?

No event for us. Luckily my daughter doesn't like to spend money on toys or junk food.
She just wants to see the movie. The only time it's an event is if we see a movie at the IMAX in the Seattle Center then we just hang out at the Science Center.
Even when she was younger we would do the matinee shows of new movies. No lines, low cost and gives us time to go to the park/beach after and play for the rest of the day...I guess it was an event after all. LOL

My kids would cringe ( and so would I) if I showed up at a comic movie wearing a comic t-shirt...little TOO geeky for me. I'll wear 'em everyday of the week and twice on Sunday but I'm not gonna get my "geek on" by being so obvious about it.
