If that was Mitchell in the movie, it would be the 2nd time Kirk stranded someone on a planet and had it come back to bite him on the butt.

I thought the whole row your boat thing in the film was funny and trying to get Spock to join in was a great moment in the film. Also wasn't there a good joke at the end at Spocks expense along the lines of how could he know anything when he didn't even know the words to row your boat. I thought all that was great, each to his own i guess.

I would be in for them doing that. I didn't like the effects (who did) and the whole Sybok half brother thing was lame, but still, fix at least the effects and Star Trek V would be at least 50% better
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

Even though I like him because he's lousy, Klaa must be the mostly poorly written Trek badguy ever

It's embarrassing reading what he says ... No way would he ever have become a Klingon Captain.

Klaa was basically Krug as a child

I never thought "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" could be saved, but the director's cut with updated effects made a profound difference in the film. Alot of the editing was changed to create a better pacing and the effects helped explain the ending considerably better. Even added some dramatic flare that was missing from the theatrical version. I say let's give Shatner a chance to salvage this picture as well. If the film can be re-edited with modern effects, he may be able to convey the story he originally wanted. If nothing else, it will demonstrate whether he had a legitimate gripe or not.

And let's not forget Uhura's fan dance. That would have been great back in the 60s but not with her in her 60s.

Well said.I remember the trash that was the motion picture and I must say I love the directors cut it is an entirely different show now.Well same story but pulled together and flowing better. The visuals really add to the final product.

I thought the row-row part was cute. A bunch of old fart friends goofing off. There are other parts that are lame, but it's still better than 3 of the Next Gen movies.

The row your boat part sounded forced.

It was as if they were doing a SNL sketch rather than a movie.

I also think Spock and Bones would probably not go camping with Kirk.

Spock would be too busy tinkering around on the ship and camping is definitely not McCoy's bag.

the camping bit and the bit with Sulu and Chekov hiking together was really just meant to show what great friends they all are.....we all knew that already so the scenes really added noting to the movie and came across as rather silly
i am always up for updating movies.....if the new version sucks I can still watch the original and never think about the revised version again

Strange as I totally see Spock and McCoy camping together with Kirk as they are great friends.Especially McCoy who absolutely despises technology(except for medical advances).
Spock on the grounds of friendship and camaraderie.
Perhaps I am biased though as I read alot of the trek novels and often the three are doing things together like camping or exploring.

The only thing I really liked was the cat lady with the multi-boobs.

For me, Star Trek V holds memories of Southern Comfort, illegal substances, and waking up in the back of a pickup truck in a deserted drive-in. I was younger then. I still need to see the movie all the way through in one sitting.
