The first grown-up record that I remember buying was K-Tel's Hit Machine in 1976. I'm proud to say that I still have it. Borrowed from a current auction:

    1. (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty - KC & The Sunshine Band
    2. Right Back Where We Started From - Maxine Nightingale
    3. Moonlight Feels Right - Starbuck
    4. Summer - War
    5. When Will I Be Loved - Linda Ronstadt
    6. Happy Days - Pratt & McClain
    7. Our Day Will Come - Frankie Valli
    8. (You're) Having My Baby - Paul Anka
    9. Love Really Hurts Without You - Billy Ocean
    10. Disco Duck (Part 1) - Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots
    11. Island Girl - Elton John
    12. A Fifth Of Beethoven - Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band
    13. Let Your Love FLow - Bellamy Brothers
    14. Welcome Back - John Sebastian
    15. Evil Woman - The Electric Light Orchestra
    16. Take A Hand - Rick Springfield
    17. Rock And Roll All Nite - Kiss
    18. I'm Not Lisa - Jessi Colter
    19. Who Loves You - Four Seasons
    20. Disco Lady - johnnie Taylor

    Goofy Greats was the best

    I had that on 8-track

In this PC world you'll never see another song like Ahab the Arab

    started a topic K-Tel records

    K-Tel records

Seems they had a theme for every kind of compilation.
My favorites were Goofy Greats and Dumb Dittys.
My brother would play these at special occasions.
    How about you?

Got a favorite compilation from K-Tel?
