Question about music sources in Quadraphonic sound

Back in the old days I had a few LP's and 8-tracks in Quadraphonic sound.
At the time I didn't even notice they were "Quad" and I just used to play them on my regular stereo.

Even though I owned probably about 10-20 titles in Quad I never heard them in quad sound.

    I have a few questions ....

First, did anyone here ever hear Quads on equipment they were designed for ?
    How did they sound ?

    Second .....
I noticed many Quad LP's and 8-tracks go for some pretty big bucks on ebay.
If this format is still semi popular, why isn't the Quad versions released on CD ?
    Or are they ? --
Or, is CD equipment not designed to play Quad ?

Were'nt Quadraphonic LPs designed to play on Quad systems?
My Cousin had one in the 70s.

There were competing Quad formats at the time I believe.

One of them was based on the matrixing technology that was later adapted for movies (encoding a surround channel on 2 channel movie soundtrack)

So, those quad tapes can play just fine on regular equipment.
