So the thread about live action 70's morning shows got me fired up enough to track down the Magic Garden DVD, and though admittedly, it was kinda rough sitting through the entire thing, I'm really glad I did.
It's pretty fantastic. Talk about bringing you back. This is WAY back... Again, like most things we dug from the seventies, it's very simple but very effective. Watching the episodes and listening to the songs, it's easy to see why so many little kids were into this. Adult viewings are entirely another matter, but for nostalgic reasons, I'd have to say I was digging it. I even actually remembered a lot of the chuckle patch jokes, and the songs, but believe me when I tell you that on this 2 disc set (that also includes a CD of some songs) there will be things that you didn't remember. Or, at least I didn't.
What I found particularly interesting, were the Sherlock and Flapper characters... I think they were both male, but watching some of their interaction as an adult was shall I say-- Intriguing.
Overall, it was worth it. The two negatives I'd have to say were the CD and the "Interview" with Paula and Carole on the "bonus features". The CD only has 5 songs on it and the two most popular songs, the hello song and the goodbye song, aren't on it.
The interview is literally 3 minutes long, and has two tiny clips of each of them talking for like 10 seconds. I kid you not... The rest of it is just clips from the show.
Why that's even on there, is a complete mystery to me.
I'm a total sucker for anything 70's, so I'm still humming and whistling the songs, and feeling pretty groovy about the whole thing... "See ya, C ya-- Hope you have a shiny day-- Goodbye!"
