Is any classic movie too sacred to touch?

After reading the boards and seeing the preview for "the A team" on TV tonight I got to thinking, "What hasn't been remade yet?"

The first movie that popped into my mind was "The Wizard of Oz".

Could it be that technicolor marvel of it's day is so priceless that no one would ever dare to remake it? Believe me I am not encouraging the act, just wondering.

Also are there any other movies too sacred to be touched by modern effects and half cocked psuedo celebrities? For instance "Citizen Kane". Is there some over confident ego maniac, wanna be Orson Welles director out there who would be willing to risk their psuedo career on a remake with say, Snoop Dogg or Tom Arnold in the lead role? I can see it now "ROSE-B-IZZZILLE!!!!"

Chitty-Chitty-Bang Bang? Remake into an adult movie?
Singing In The Rain? About the Seattle music scene?
            An American In Paris?

Metropolis. Leave it be. You just know Hollywood is itching to cast Lindsay Lohan or Megan Fox as Maria and turn it into into a huge CGI mess of blurry nausea inducing 3-D.

Plan 9 from Outer Space. It's so unintentionally gloriously magnificently awesomely bad. Don't mess with it. No way to top it. Can't be improved upon.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Alice In Wonderland was the 5th highest grossing movie in history - expect lots more remakes and lots more 3D.

Oh sh** I forgot about the Wiz. Well, see what I mean? So since it's not all that sacred perhaps Lucasfilm could team up with Peter Jackson and James Cameron and remake WOOZ. Film it in New Zealand, Have Kate Winslet as Dorothy (Leonardo DiCaprio as Toto), Samuel L Jackson as the Cowardly Lion ( think about all the scenes he would have to BS and trash talk so the lion appears tough," M*********F******* I wil Rip YOur M***F********** heart out of your M*********F************** chest and feed it to my boy the tin man here (Played by Nicholas Cage) so we don't have to do anymore of this G******* D******* walking and singing. Now somebody get me a G**** D******* pair of tweezer for this M*****F*********** thorn in my foot. Please."

Oh yeah and maybe Jim Carrey as the Scarecrow.

I'm already working on it dude! It's going to be an Adam Sandler vehicle just called "Kane". It will be a lighthearted take on the classic tale, updated, of course. Rob Schneider will play Mr. Bernstein, John Turturro will be Mr. Thatcher and Kevin James will play Jedediah Leland - which is great, because when Kane gets all old and fat they will get into a fat-man wrestling match and roll down a flight of stairs! Hilarious!

                    "You can do eet!"

While I've never seen some of them; I know enough about them to name some.
Gone With The Wind comes to mind.

I don't think It's A Wonderful Life has been redone, has it? I hope not.

'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic

In the remake...the maid (played by Queen Latifah) would kick Scarlett O'Hara's arse...

I think 2001 is the biggest movie that will probably never be remade.
