Not to rain on anybody's Apocapalypse, but...

Because the Mayans only had rudimentary equipment to chart and calculate the movement of the stars over the Long Count Calendar (5125.36 years) they made a minor error: the alignment already happened at the end of the 20th Century...

The conspiracy I heard about recently and made me think a little is the 1996 TWA flight 800 being a covered up terrorist attack instead of a plane crash.

I'm not saying I endorse the conspiracy theory (yet) but there are some interesting aspects.

    You really wanna go there?

Not according to the alien conspiracy nutters. They claim the aliens were neuter. What is sexist is believing aliens created Kevlar and not Stephanie Kwolek.

You know, it actually kinda irks me we live in a culture were people would rather believe aliens are actually responsible for kevlar because a woman couldn't have possibly invented it.

    I give up!

we had arrived at another conspiracy theory conclusion,
when asked about all sorts of things, the Mattycollector answers are so vague, Is IT POSSIBLE THAT MATTY HIMSELF IS MERELY ONE OF THE OLDEST EMPLOYEES OF MATTEL?
ladies and gents I give you Matty aka The magic 8 ball!

I think the biggest conspiracy that was ever proven true was when the Soviet Union shot down that that Korean passenger jet and they wouldn't admit it.

That only lasted a few days though.

There's this fallacy that rears it's head whenever there's huge strides in technology - there must be some other force at work other than just our ingenuity.

Sometimes feats that we think are amazing have very simple solutions.

Geometry of the Egyptian Pyramids: For years people were amazed by the fact that the pyramids were built with such precise geometry. To do so would have required them to understand Pi - but it seemed impossible that the ancient Egyptians could have figured out the mathematics of Pi - it must have been aliens!

Turns out there's a very simple solution - they probably didn't know about Pi, they probably just used circular measuring devices.

l've seen this special. They actually go the process of determining if there were also viable shots to be had at the grassy knoll and from a sewer location. They claim that Kennedy could have been shot from the grassy knoll but you would have had to shoot thru and break the windshield to do it.

The re-creation of the Oswald shot is quite good but still only lends creedence to the theory that the fatal blow comes from behind. It does not necessarily prove Oswald was the only gunman or that he pulled the trigger. There is still some doubt Oswald even fired the rifle. Some witnesses testified he was in the wrong location at the wrong times to have been on the specific floor to fire the rifle. I am a conspiracy buff and I'm not knocking down that special or it's findings. That was a really good show.

It's like the ones that keep saying aliens are the ones who built everything like Stonehenge, the Pyramids and everything else. People don't realize how far advanced we were before the Dark Ages came along.

If he didn't die dead on a toilet I might believe it ... But Elvis was too cool to fake his death like that.

If he would have died in a motorcycle accident or something I might believe it more.

Another consipiracy theory that hasn't been mentioned yet is that top government officials including FDR knew well in advance that Pearl Harbor was going to be attacked but allowed it to happen to give us a reason to enter WWII.

Personally, I think it is more interesting in understanding the psychology behind consipiracy theories than the actual conspiracies or alleged conspiracies themselves.

For some of the most commonly mentioned on this thread, I think there was only one assasin in the JFK assasination. I don't know if there were others involved in the plot or not.

UFO's. I honestly don't believe that extra terristerial life has ever visited this planet. Again, that doesn't mean that I don't believe that forms of extra terristerial life exists in some shape or form. Actually, I am agnostic toward the whole idea but that's my opinion. I really don't know and haven't heard anything that my brain can logically wrap itself around regarding life elsewhere other than the argument that the universe is big and as was already mentioned, it is arrogant of us to think that we are the only ones in existence.

I don't know if it will there will ever be proof or disproof and I guess at some point it is similar in believing in a deity. Science ends and faith begins.
