Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"

            Umm, cool?

Unless you work for one of the companies, I never understood the taking sides of one mega corporation over another. I know the Apple faithful can be a little out there though. Reminds me a lot of the mindset of the video game nerds and the console wars. The Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft rules/sucks kinda stuff.

Personally, I don't care who is in first or last place as long as I get the games and gadgets I want to play with. With this new success, maybe Apple will re-enter the console market? Apple Pippin 2? Eh, why not. I'd buy one if it had good games.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

^^^ I'm not to particular to MS in anyway. I've seen the inner workings and heard horror stories that still gone to this day. With all the attempts, they are still fruitless with product that is of low quality. Windows Media, anyone?
Apple is so so when it comes to their products. On average, my iPods lasted 3 years and after that they were toast. Not to mention the laptops and iMacs. You have to constantly upgrade and leave the old behind. They lose value so quickly.
As for the OS, it's much better than Windows but c'mon, we work on Macs all day at work utilizing Final Cut Pro and we just get crashes galore. All the upgrades and patches just make everything unstable. I can't tell you how many times Quicktime crashed on me this week.
I won't take sides, I utilize what I can when it calls for the right computer. I go both ways. But overall I don't side with MS at all.

It's astounding with the launch of the ipad that everyone else has just thrown up their hands and given up on any attempts to compete with it. Particularly at that price point.

They really have been on this track since the launch of the imac a dozen years ago. Technology aimed to fit the lives of everyday users.

I will say this is an "interesting development" so as not to enrage anyone.

About ten years ago, a friend of mine sold his company to TI, and they effectively became TI Canada. It is through this connection that I met my spouse who worked for TI at the time, so I guess I too owe a great deal to TI, although my house is littered with Apple branded tech.

I was in a five hour road-trip with a bunch of tech-heads this weekend and had a really interesting conversation around Apple's domination via the ipod/iphone/ipad evolution, and the way this all-in-one tech essentially started off as apple's "digital walkman".

If you had asked me as a teenager, I would have been convinced that the TI scientific calculators they made us buy in high school with the little graphing screens and billions of buttons would have been our future Tricorders.

Remember when everyone in the financial district had a Palm Pilot a dozen years ago? They had plans to add a phone to it and all kinds of other attachable modules.

And in the end (I'm oversimplifying) it all came down to music media and the ease of going from itunes to your ipod.

I visited the Brantford Computer Museum about an hour away from me in Toronto a few weeks back.

It was a real eye-opener for me in all the competing home computing/gaming systems that were released since the seventies/eighties, and the fact that only a fraction of these companies survived until today.

I also got to play with a friend's Newton. I had forgotten that this is actually the second kick at the can for Apple and the "ipad".
