Custom made Mustang "new edge" vertical door hinge creation step by step

Since we seem to have a few Mustang threads going on in here I thought I would share some step by step pictures showing what was involved in helping make my 2002 GT 5 speed convertible a show stopper:

Here are a few before pics of what my GT looked like for the most part when I first purchased it:

Parked next to my blue 2000 5 speed coupe:

Styling/light bar added and on display at Hobos beach in Isabela:

Photo op at the famous Taino Indian Chief rock head in Isabela:

At a car show in San Juan at the Roberto Clemente Stadium:

Vertical door hinge creation and install coming up next.....
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

Ok, so get your popcorn and soda ready as we see the process of taking a solid piece of steel and use it to help transform a mostly stock Mustang into an amazing looking show car:

    Step one:

Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

More made from scratch pieces. Hinge adjustments, inner door mounting plates and door stops:

      Fenders and doors removed:

Hinge plates ready for modification with screw adjustments already welded on:

Adding masking tape to the hinge plates so the factory screw mounting points can be accurately stamp marked for drilling:

Preparing to "stamp"the factory mounting holes into the masking tape on the hinge plates:

With the factory hinge bolts re-installed back in the factory holes, the plate is then carefully placed and then hit with a hammer to stamp the screw points into the masking tape:

The mounting bolt spots are now marked on the tape:

Drilling the holes using a special and very expensive drill bit:

Then drilling the holes to the correct size for the factory bolts:
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

With the final drilling done, the plates are prepped for welding the mounting pieces:

            It's all in the details:

This is Albert, owner of Millinium Motorsports and the genius behind the creation of the hinges along with a variety of many many other custom fabricated items and modifications:

Inner door plates and hinge mech pieces are then prepped:

The hinge plates are bolted on:

The doors are placed back on the car to line up for the inner door plates.
The inner plates are then welded to the hinge mech which instantly creates a perfect alignment.
Everything is starting to come together:

Why would guys do this to a mustang. I'm more of the turbo, supercharger, and nitrous kind of guy. I had a bud do this and the car was never the same again.Doors just don't align right sometimes with the best measurements. Good luck!

My car will probably get supercharged at some point, but in a world where the speed limit is 65 mph at best massive horse power can only take you so far. At a car show the engine wow factor is obviously very important but the overall wow factor of the entire car as a display piece is as much or more important than just what is under the hood.

These hinges are made specifically for this car and are solid and extremely well built. These are obviously not over priced pieces of crap that were purchased on the internet.
These are also totally removable allowing for the factory stock hinges to be easily bolted back on at any time, if one wanted to.

                Back to the install.

Once the inner plate is spot welded to the hinge mech, they are then removed from the car so they can be better welded:

The passengers side door is then lined up so the inner plate can be welded to it's hinge plate:

The doors are then tested for alignment and fitment:

Gas struts are prepped for install:

The hinges are prepped for the final adjutment pieces and for the gas struts while bolts are cut down flush to create a clean look:

The door is bolted back on to prepare for the install of the gas struts:

Not one, not two but three gas struts per side:

Stepping back and seeing for the first time the show stopping magic with the door now lifted up while the guys finish the passenger side gas strut install:

Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"

With the passenger side pretty much done the attention then turns to the drivers side.
Holes are drilled for mounting the gas struts:

With the struts now installed everything is primered and prepped for paint:

An earlier trip to the auto parts paint store with the paint code from my car they obtain an exact color match to the factory paint and with the area masked off they spray both sides giving it an original factory look:

Everything is then double checked and triple checked before the car is put back together:

                        The fenders are re-installed:

The finished product on display at car shows with it's new vertical door look along with newly added 18" chrome torque thrust "bullitt" rims, custom painted aftermarket lighted side mirrors and many other upgrades:

Actually, trying to get pictures of the car now without anyone in the way at car shows has become somewhat more difficult:
