While I knew even as a small tot people could not fly. That did not stop me from building several "prototypes" of flying machines. Yes steep hills and ramps were involved.

And to my credit limited flight was achieved....for a few seconds

I use to act out That I was George Reeves. My Mom had gotten me a grey sweatshirt I then made my own superman black and white emblem and put a black towel into my shirt to to make it look like George's Centurion cape. I'd come running out of the bathroom and do George's bounce into my Parents bed while humming the Superman theme...lol and no I wouldn't really fly..... that's for loons....

I jumped off of our shed. Not the best idea I've ever had LOL. I also jumped off the roof. I was kind of a crazy kid now that I think about it, Ha Ha Ha.

I think the closest I've ever come is when I was up in the swings at the park, I'd close my eyes while I was swinging. Ever try that? You get the sensation of flying.

Remember Flying is the art of throwing yourself at the ground and missing. You just need to be distracted at the right moment.

There was a commercial in the 70s where people were jumping with umbellas and floating (don't remember the product). My best friend and I tried that jumping, off a low garage with umbrellas opened -- crash and burn -- not a smart commercial.

At the age of Five or Six we lived in a country house that had access to getting on the roof off of a nearby tree. I climbed on it one day with my superman PJs and homemade cape to get to the highest peak of the roof. Dont know what I was thinking back then but really imagined myself flying. I jumped off and upon landing broke both my legs. I got the worst whooping that I can remember and after I stopped crying then they took me to the hospital. Lesson learned after that.

There's a certain member in here that has a particular story, similar to that. Insted of an umbrella, he and his friend David Buckley built a certain contraption from a certain TV series... Perhaps that member will post that story on this thread. Too bad I can't tell you his namedavidlepage.

Flying through the air after a long swing with a rope into the lake count? Lots of time in the air and it sure felt like flying. Super high dives off bridges is like flying down into the water. I used to jump out my second story window all the time. Not really flying, but it felt like it.

Nope, never tried to fly but did always want to jump off the roof with an umbrella.

Awww, c'mon Hec... You HAD to have the red bath towel pinned on the back of your Superman underoos shirt, jumping off the garage roof... Right? You're shattering all my myths... LOL.
